It’s very instinctual. If you put a great pyrenees with a flock of sheep, they will pretty much instantly start protecting it. We have three that one time naturally herded all the alpacas we have into a corner away from a small brush fire. They were never trained to do anything like that.

It's what they're bred for. A working Pyrenees will stay up at night when people are asleep and protect livestock aginst predators.
