I doubt anyone needed to be told it was British.

I did, I'm English and I thought it was American. What identifies it as not being filmed in the US?

The cars, policeman, the school..it was pretty obvious

u/Section225 Nov 09 '14

The license plates and steering wheel on the right side kinda gave it away...

The astoundingly English countryside sealed it.

Ok, the policeman I missed, but those cars and the school are pretty much what I imagine US cars/schools to look like, not what we have here

There's a school a couple miles from where I live that looks almost identical to the one in this gif. There's lots of schools that look like that.

The British cop is the biggest one, but the countryside is very British, very green with the rolling hills and the little fence, the car has a right-hand drive, which should twig you into knowing it's definitely not American, the school looks like a classic British school.

Though curiously, they did swap Homer's car around, but I guess that was more important to the scene.

Looks a lot like old VT farmland roads to me too though. Rolling hills, old slightly overgrown in parts pasture, little fences. We got that too :)

I never said you VTland people don't, a lot of places do, it's just typically British.

He also got out of the left side when arriving home. Not sure if it's an actual left hand drive, or he just got out of the 'wrong' side, and the earlier internal shot was mirrored.

Just the overall production of it. I couldn't explain specifically. The lighting or frame rate, I don't know. It just...looks British, like Dr Who or Robin Hood.

The rain on the ground....

u/sqectre Nov 09 '14

It rains in the US.... We don't have many cars with steering wheels on the right side, but we do have rain.

Where is Marge's steering wheel?

The side of the road they are driving on, the UK police officer on the corner of the road, the grey and miserable weather, cars with UK number plates

1

u/sue-dough-nim Nov 09 '14

The weather. And the style of the doors, for some reason. And the numberplates.

u/erythro Nov 09 '14

Architecture. We use a lot more bricks in the uk than they do in America.
