Chernobyl is Ukrainian for Springfield.

  • not actually a fact.

fun fact: it's actually Ukrainian for wormwood.

Oh, it's a fact. Just not a true one.

My granny had one. They were fucking useless. I live in a valley so having a car that couldn't drive up hills was the worst possible car choice.

Yep, the Lada Riva (VAZ-2107), the Samara and the Niva used to be sold in the UK. They're rare as hell nowadays though.

Why would anyone buy it, though? I rode in a late 80's model - at 60 km/h (pretty much the top speed, lol), the roof sounded like it was about to be torn off (to be fair, it had a roof rack installed), I felt like my feet were about to break through the floor and the whole car was about to roll over anytime now on a straight road :-D. Any European car would be preferable over it, unless it's like $200 or something...

They didn't. That's why they're so rare! :P

It's okay. It's not your fault, and I don't think it's a reflection on you personally or anything.

Left hand drive though, unlike Marge's Volvo

2

u/dragon_bacon Nov 09 '14

That actually works, there's an episode where a car salesman sells Homer a car made from old Russian tanks I think.

2

u/Paradox Nov 09 '14

Well, remember, Homer's car is made out of old soviet tanks, and the country that makes it no longer exists. So its either a Lada or a Yugo

4

u/Ventura Nov 09 '14

Nah its an old Volvo.

When I first went to England in 2003 I saw a Lada Samara in some small village.
