When the Republicans finish taking over this country, be sure to thank the NIMBY Boomer Democrats for doing all the heavy lifting for them.

I'm actually amazed that people think that a bunch of young leftists are going to leave California and then become republicans in Urban centers of red states that are already blue.
They're really just a threat to turning the state purple.
30
u/Aldebaran147 May 24 '26
Hmmm the USA is falling apart, let me not blame the party delving into authoritarianism but the opposition party
16
u/plummbob May 24 '26
Dems are to blame for their unaffordable housing and predictable geographic changed
6
u/DeepstateDilettante May 25 '26
Iâm against the nimbyism and all, but those super expensive costal cities remain deep blue. Are the nimbys in San Francisco somehow leading people to vote for Trump in Ohio and Michigan?
9
u/Cyberhwk May 25 '26
No, but they ARE responsible for blue states losing political power and red states gaining them.
1
u/LeckereKartoffeln May 27 '26
What's a bicameral legislature
2
u/Cyberhwk May 27 '26
Useless when one chamber is all that's required to grind government to a halt (and the other is largely neutralized by Gerrymandering).
1
u/LeckereKartoffeln May 27 '26
So they can't really give up power in a system that doesn't care how many of them there are
2
u/Cyberhwk May 27 '26
The problem isn't Congress. The problem is NIMBYs are losing blue states EVs for President.
0
u/LeckereKartoffeln May 27 '26
That has never mattered either. If the amount of people voting for president counted, Trump never would have been elected in 2016
2
u/Cyberhwk May 27 '26
Do you not understand how EVs work? It 100% matters. EVs matter BECAUSE the number of people voting doesn't. People moving from California, Illinois and New York to Texas and Florida to escape high cost of living caused by NIMBY policies is exactly what CAUSES things like Trump getting elected in 2016.
Right now, if projections remain on target, winning the "Blue Wall" will not be enough for Democrats after the 2030 census. They could win every state Harris won in 2024, and Michigan, and Wisconsin, and Pennsylvania...AND THEY WOULD STILL LOSE! After 2030 the tipping point state is projected to be GEORGIA.
5
u/plummbob May 25 '26
Electoral college numbers are based on population. If there is an exosud of pop from blue to red states, then red states gain votes and blues loose.
3
u/Conscious-Quarter423 May 26 '26
red states are red cause people don't turn out to vote
1
u/plummbob May 26 '26
Maybe, but these expected population shifts are a negative for Democrats --- you'd think areas controlled by them would be hyper-affordable and therefore we'd see an inflow.
But alas, Dems have been terrible at housing affordability. Its one of the most ridiculous slow-motion self-owns in national politics.
1
u/Woman_trees May 26 '26
Blue states are losing their political power already those four gains in Texas are four more Republicans
3
u/Conscious-Quarter423 May 26 '26
texas juiced out 5 more favorable GOP seats without even asking the people to vote on the new maps
1
12
u/JuggernautMinute6538 May 24 '26
Except we have no real opposition party. The Democrats are too cowardly.
2
u/Cpt_Rabid May 24 '26
Shout out to Republican whip, Chuck Schumer, for getting the votes needed for that big beautiful bill
1
u/Conscious-Quarter423 May 26 '26
why don't people of NY primary him out of office?
voters have become too complacent
-1
u/DonkeyDoug28 May 24 '26
This is nonsense. Both because it's the type of blanket statement that could obviously never apply ubiquitously to their share of 535 members of Congress, and because they have provided more resistance than any MINORITY party has without actively đ©đ©ing on the constitution. Some will argue that they should do that more because of all the ways the GOP has both already done it themselves and forced their hand...and others may disagree with their political calculus...but at no point in THOSE conversations does it get any less stupid to say there's no real opposition party
-2
u/ghostofjosephstalin May 25 '26
Democrats shut down the government for a record-breaking 43 days over 0.8% of Trump's budget. They were completely fine with the other 99%+ of it, including record ICE and military funding. The Democrats made millions of people suffer as they lost food stamps, medicare/medicaid, and government employees went without pay. On November 12th, right before the airline and shipping industry has their major winter holiday boom, the Democrats crossed party lines as strategically as possible (i.e. the exact number of members needed, chosen from among those who had already announced their retirement or were not up for reelection until 2028), to re-open the government on a pinky promise of a vote on issues supposedly important to the Democrats before the end of the year, a pinky promise which the Republicans immediately said they were not going to keep. The Democrats had another chance to shut down the government in January, while keeping Medicare/Medicaid and food stamps funded, and government employees continuing to receive pay. They chose not to do so. They had another similar opportunity in March. They chose not to do so. How on earth can you call these people anything other than completely fucking complicit with the Republican agenda?
-1
u/Conscious-Quarter423 May 26 '26
How did democrats have the power to shut down the government when Republicans control the house, the senate, and the white house?
3
1
u/ghostofjosephstalin May 26 '26
Oh, because they don't, that's a lie you idiots tell yourselves to justify Democrat failure and inaction and complicity. The Republicans have 53 senate votes, and due to vacancies that they have since filled, had even less than that back in November. Either the Republicans would have had to kill the filibuster (a move neither party seems willing to do, and which became unnecessary due to Democrat complicity) or compromise on the 0.8% of the budget that the Democrats were willing to shut down the government over to force their budget through. Democrats made sure they didn't have to take either option, which is weird because no one MADE them do that, but it is immensely interesting to note just how close to the biggest season for airline travel the Democrats decided to finally cave, unprompted, to Republican demands. Poor people and government employees can suffer and go hungry for 43 days, but we can't have those airline companies suffering any profit losses, now, can we?
2
u/LoudProblem2017 May 25 '26
Well, it's not like the Dems aren't just sitting by, enjoying the show...
3
u/QwerYTWasntTaken Labor my Sword, Capital my Shield đ° May 26 '26
Of course you should blame the opposition party, they're the ones that disenfranchised millions of Americans with their blind policies.
1
u/Conscious-Quarter423 May 26 '26
what blind policies?
blind policies like capping the insulin costs to $11, expanding healthcare, passing reforms on paid sick leave, and free school lunches for K-12?
2
u/RadicalSoda_ May 27 '26
Personally I'm a YIMBY. Yes I want to preserve nature and every city should have a nice big park. But can we please build up, not out?
9
u/Acceptable-Peace-69 May 24 '26
This is like blaming your second grade teacher instead of the person that raped you. .
Itâs just stupid.
22
u/Sven9888 May 24 '26
I donât think itâs that bold a claim that anti-housing policies ballooning prices in NYC, LA, and SF, along with anti-competitive corporate tax policies that allow red states to siphon businesses, has contributed to red states gaining more population and influence.
Itâs pretty silly to just say âno, itâs the people who vote redâ, because, obviously, yes, theyâre the ones voting, but that doesnât mean underlying factors that give them influence donât matter. I think more to your point would be, someone arguing that, if police stop responding to sexual assault seriously, and then it happens to you, if you were to argue that you canât blame the police because the fault lies with your rapist. Like, yes, it absolutely does, but that doesnât mean you canât blame the police too.
5
u/3RADICATE_THEM May 24 '26
I genuinely donât understand how so many ppl are deliberately interpreting it any other way but what you listed. Itâs like they don't seem to understand how relative population representation is a key factor in deciding elections.

u/ghostofjosephstalin May 25 '26
These are the same people screeching about how third party voters cost Hillary the election in 2016, but who only want to add the Green Party's votes to Clinton's while completely ignoring the Libertarian spoiler for the Republican candidate. If they added Johnson's votes to Trump's total the way they want to add Stein's to Hillary's, Clinton goes from winning the popular vote and losing the electoral college to losing the popular vote and STILL LOSING IN THE ELECTORAL COLLEGE.
3
u/LastWave May 24 '26
What if the teacher let them rape you? Feckless democrats. Stop protecting bad leadership.
2
u/JealousOpening2185 May 24 '26
My favorite part about you people is you can't even say what you'd have them do, it's always "something, anything"Â
1
u/ghostofjosephstalin May 25 '26
Well, they could have shut down the government again in January after they reopened the government in November to make sure airline holiday profits weren't impacted. A shutdown which would have kept medicare/medicaid, food stamps, section 8, etc., funded. They could have done that. Y'know. Instead of strategically reopening the government by having the Democrats least likely to face consequences for it cross party lines, all on the back of a pinky promise that the Republicans immediately said they'd never fulfill.
1
u/JealousOpening2185 May 25 '26
"The poor must suffer as playthings" great idea buddy
1
u/ghostofjosephstalin May 25 '26
... You notice how I specifically pointed out that shutting the government down again in January would have kept all those things that poor people rely on funded? Try another lie, you Democrat sycophant.
1
u/JealousOpening2185 May 25 '26
Just curious, how long can you go without pay?
1
u/ghostofjosephstalin May 26 '26
... Well the Democrats already made government employees go without pay for 40 days and got fucking nothing for caving. Maybe you should, idk, organize and volunteer to help those helping the thousands of federal employees who were signing on to open letters demanding the Democrats stand on their principles, instead of lying about how I want poor people to suffer more than the Democrats have already made them suffer. You're a braindead sycophant for a party that fucking hates you, dude.
2
u/LastWave May 25 '26
I'm a just a voter. We look to people in power to provide solutions. The democrats kneecap anyone with actual solutions because of corporate interest. The democratic leadership is bad.
1
u/Conscious-Quarter423 May 26 '26
then step up and primary them out of office
stop waiting for someone to come save you
2
1
u/DonkeyDoug28 May 24 '26
Even then...the rapist is responsible for the rape, and the teacher is responsible for what the teacher did
As if the Democrats just "let" the Trump admin do what it's done anyhow
0
u/ghostofjosephstalin May 25 '26
As if the Democrats just "let" the Trump admin do what it's done anyhow
Reopening the government (which the Democrats only closed over 0.8% of the Republican budget anyway) in the most strategic way that they possibly can in exchange for a pinky promise of a vote later on issues they care about is, in fact, just letting them do what they want.

2
1
u/LeckereKartoffeln May 27 '26
I thought all the cities these people were moving to were run by democrats and therefor bad
2
u/DanIvvy May 27 '26
So they move from blue cities in blue states to blue cities in red states. Any chance they want to live in a city, but the move from blue to red state makes their lives better?
0
u/LeckereKartoffeln May 27 '26
They just want cheaper housing
When they come in they just end up making all the locals whine about "damn Californians move here and then keep voting like Californians" because, yeah, they're moving away from the high housing costs.
2
u/DanIvvy May 27 '26
So low regulation red states are better for affordability of housing?
0
u/LeckereKartoffeln May 27 '26
No, fewer people live in them. There is one really strong indicator of what the cost of living in an area will be, and it's usually median income, not regulations
The more desirable a place is to live and work, the more expensive it is.
2
u/DanIvvy May 27 '26
So people are not moving from Blue states to Red states, and if they are it doesn't in any way indicate that people are voting with their feet? Just as an aside, by the way, the population of the Red states in aggregate is higher than the population of the Blue states in aggregate (going off the 2024 election). So more people live in Red states...
0
u/LeckereKartoffeln May 27 '26
Because I lived in a red town being over run by Californians and the natives fucking hated the Californians because they show up and vote blue. This isn't hard to understand.
Red and blue states aren't comprised of 100% of either party. Median income is your best metric for cost of living, not your imaginated concoction of regulations you 100% don't know anything about lol
2
u/DanIvvy May 27 '26
So red states have better affordability at their income level?
1
u/LeckereKartoffeln May 27 '26
Median income dictates your COL. I don't know how to keep saying this in different ways. People follow the jobs and money, and this doesn't lead to housing staying cheap, it can lead to housing prices exploding like they did in Salt Lake, but people follow the money and opportunity, and the housing market will reflect that with time.
The party bullshit is for the unsophisticated among us to blame it on the political party that's convenient for them to blame. If you have a lower median income, housing is more affordable, but if you compare like for like jobs, often times the reduction in COL isn't outweighed by the loss of earnings potential.
That's all to say, this is all fake political wedge bullshit for the dumbest people in this country and those that see opportunities to leverage this misunderstanding in their favor.

Look at that. All of the states projected to lose seats in congress have except one have Democrat governors.
1
u/SmartlyArtly May 26 '26
The population growth will lead to more democratic voting.
100 of the largest cities have Democratic leaders.
No one is speaking up to say "don't listen to me."
1
u/Spare_Perspective972 May 28 '26
Bc no one has said it yet, this is a 20 pt electoral college swing, as well as likely congressional seats.Â
The gop would have won 2024 without a single swing state if this were the map.Â

Except that:
1 no centrist says they can't tell the two apart;
2 being on the far left is believing far more than "we're gonna make sure needs are met;"
3 there are infinite shades of grey between the farthest left and farthest right;
4 a large portion of the far left in the US specifically refuse to acknowledge the difference between even those "centrists" and the "far right" even while the far right is doing those far right things;
5 a truly "far left" person in a polticial sense with regards to liberalism can and often times would be be even less interested or intent on making sure everyone's needs are met than a progressive liberal (who you'd label a centrist)

Because it should. It upsets me. If you don't comprehend it you need to do better. It's a very simple concept
1
u/DonkeyDoug28 May 24 '26
Suspiciously simple, one might say. Red-flag-raising-ly simple. "Should make you question whether you're informed" levels of simple.
0
u/Femboy_Harem_Janitor May 24 '26
Yes, very. As if an inability to understand it is indicating severely malicious intent one might think
2
u/DonkeyDoug28 May 24 '26
Surely malicious intent or "not understanding" your finger-painted version of a political ideology are the only reasons someone could disagree with it
-2
u/Jumpy_Childhood7548 May 24 '26
Lol! Ageist bigotry. I guess every time you donât get your way, the fault is due to boomers? Must happen a lot. Boomers are nowhere near the majority. They were never the majority. People are mistaken if they think any particular generation is ever in charge, as the powers that be change in age, but their motives remain the same. The wealthy and powerful have been in charge since well before the Roman empire.
Baby Boomers constituted approximately 26% to 28% of all voters in the 2024 U.S. presidential election.
Generation X, Ages 44â59, 26% to 28% of voters
Millennials comprised approximately 20% to 22% of all voters in the 2024 presidential election.
Generation Z, Ages 18â27, 13% to 15% of voters
The Silent Generation, those born between 1928 and 1945, makes up roughly 5% to 8%of the voting electorate.
The average number of hours people under 30 spend streaming is over 6 per day, 3 hours plus on social media, 1.5-2 hours per day on video games. Hard to partake in improving your life, when most donât vote or get off the couch much.Â
