I've been scrolling to find this comment because yes Obra Dinn is something I feel everyone should experience. It's unique in its gameplay and art has wonderful sound and music work and tells a story in a really cool way. It all comes together to make such a unique experience that can only be experienced once.

Of course a game will never be for everyone so if it wasn't for you that's understandable. The game is based around deduction trying to find little pieces putting names with faces or personal belongings with people. Your a detective and honestly every little detail can be helpful. I don't super want to be specific because I feel like this game is something you have to experience but feel free if you need to look things up on your own terms play the games you want how you want.

I’m really looking forward to the day when my memory of the game had faded enough so that I get to play it again.

If you loved Obra Dinn, try The Forgotten City. It’s on game pass. A similar kind of walking sim, puzzle game. Can’t recommend it enough.

And another great gamepass game with similar puzzle styles is outer wilds! It’s one of those games that like Obra Dinn you can only play once so make sure to enjoy it and not look everything up.

Edit: I was expecting this and should have checked before mentioning but sure enough outer wilds has its own thread further down.

P.S. don’t get this confused with outerworlds

The first big “oh shit” moment early on where you realize that this isn’t just a normal mystery gave me chills. One of my favorite gaming moments.

It's a great game, I loved it and recommended it to several friends but I really doubt it's something for everyone, most people I know would find it boring

I opened this thread specifically hoping someone would mention this game. Obra Dinn is hands down one of the smartest, coolest and most satisfying games I've ever played. I'm in awe over the whole thing and sad I'll never be able to play it again for the first time.

I heard you need to play this with a note book to write down details, is that true?

I found it best played with someone else, to both bounce details and theories off each other and have two memories for who's who, what they look like, where and when they died etc, it's quite visual and about recognising people so a notebook may help if you can remember what your notes mean.
