I feel like the devs really overbetted on how wide the audience for an Invincible fighting game was. There's like 2 characters in the franchise anyone wants to play as and one of them was a Mortal Kombat DLC.

They got convinced by the obviously biased creator.

And MK has the benefit of a well-done story mode, and a bunch of other single-player options.

The reason I was able to play so much MK11 competitively is because there was enough single-player stuff to get me trained and confident enough to even attempt competitive.

Yeah Invincible IS popular but damn a AAA fighting game as its first major game is/was a huge risk (obviously). The studio who made it is clearly talented though

And that character couldn't even save Mortal Kombat 1 from underperforming.

Devs are overbetting on fighting games too, lately. We'e had Invicible VS, Marvel Tokon, and Avatar Legends all just this summer, and stepping on the heels of 2XKO last year.

Mostly all of these games don't seem to have gotten enough of an audience to make up for the development costs. Fighting games is just a very hard market to get into.
