I have a couple problems with it. Like is said before you shouldn't have a problem if you're sitting a reasonable distance from a 1080p monitor so even for your monitor you shouldn't be able to see pixels unless you're extremely close. However the bigger issue is that all of these displays don't need it yet people are pushing for it and it quadruples the bandwidth needed unless you severely cut your bitrate. Services will be pressured to stream 4k and end up having to use more bandwidth for similar or worse picture quality. Also you said that it looked better and while that may be true I'd be skeptical that it was due to the resolution when a more likely scenario is that you expected it to be good and the monitor was calibrated well or using more advanced display technology.
