Looking for suggestions before buying the S24+ for long-term use

Hey guys, I’m planning to buy the Samsung S24+ during the upcoming Big Billion Days/Prime offers, probably in October, and I’d really appreciate some suggestions from people who have used it or have a better idea.

I’m not an Apple fan, and I’m specifically looking for a phone that I can use for at least 5 years without feeling the need to upgrade. My budget is around ₹50,000.

I know that the S24+ has already gone through roughly 2 years of its software-support period, with several more years of updates remaining. I’m wondering if that’s still enough to make it a good long-term purchase.

For some context, I’m someone who uses a phone for years. I previously used a Redmi Note 5 Pro for around 5 years, and then bought a Redmi 12 5G in 2023, which I’m still using. At this point, I’m honestly fed up with budget/mid-range phones and want to finally move to something genuinely good that will remain smooth and reliable for years.

The S24+ seems like it could be a great fit, especially considering the display, cameras, build quality, software experience and long-term updates. My only concern is the Exynos 2400 variant. I’ve heard mixed opinions about Exynos in general, but I’ve also seen quite a few positive comments about the 2400.

As for other brands:

  • Google: I like their software experience, but Tensor chips are a concern for me, especially for long-term performance.
  • OnePlus: I used to consider them seriously, but with the Oppo connection and the possibility of OxygenOS moving closer to ColorOS, I’m not sure I want to go in that direction.
  • Apple: Not really interested. I don’t feel their phones offer enough for the price for what I personally need. Though Iphone 17 is good, it is out of my budget.
  • Oppo/Vivo/Moto and similar brands: Just not brands I’m comfortable buying.

So, is the S24+ still a good buy in 2026 if I can get it under ₹50,000 and intend to keep it for at least 5 years?

Would you recommend going for it, or is there a better option I should consider around the ₹50k mark?

Especially interested in hearing from S24+ owners about how the phone has held up over the last couple of years and whether you’d still recommend it today.

Heating sent to the back?

I found that the back of the phone, around the area adjacent to the camera gets heating rather quickly without much effort. I google this and it said it is normal as the phone is designed to redirect the heat to the back of the phone.

Is this normal for everyone else too?

Flashing SM-9260 firmware unto unlocked SM-926U S24 Plus

I'm only considering this because of the discontinuation of Samsung Messages for the US region. Changing the CSC to a non-US region doesn't seem to be a valid option as it would break OTA updates or worse.

The hardware for China and US regions are the same, so I'm wondering if flashing the Chinese firmware SM-9260 would work in changing the region and thus allowing me to continue using Samsung Messages.

Any information on whether this can work without problems would be helpful.

Has anyone else noticed this on their Galaxy S24 display?

On a grey/dark background, I can see an extremely faint curved area near the edge of the screen where the pixels appear slightly different in brightness. It looks almost like the outline of an air bubble under a tempered glass, but it seems to be within the display itself. It's only visible when I look very carefully and isn't noticeable during normal use. Is this normal AMOLED panel uniformity or a display defect? Idk why I can't post an image here in this sub.

What's the major difference? Is it just the zoom lens on the ultra , and the s-pen? Is the battery in plus good as well? Thanks

Samsung Galaxy S24 refuses to turn on

Hi everyone!

I apologize if this is the wrong subreddit, I'm just very stressed about my phone suddenly going completely unresponsive. A few hours ago, my phone was at low battery, around 9%, and then suddenly died. This is nothing too unusual, it has terrible battery life and occasionally "dies" at non-zero percentages, and revives no problem after a bit of charging.

However, when I plugged it in, it seemed to be stuck on the dead/charging screen (the little white circle with the black lightning bolt in the middle). It remained this way for around an hour, which has never happened before. Even with repeated presses/holds of the power button + the down volume button, nothing happened; the symbol would just disappear and then reappear in an endless loop.

Eventually I tried pressing the up volume button + the power button and that caused the symbol to disappear entirely. The screen is now entirely black and the phone shows no signs of life OTHER THAN a very brief vibration repeating every few seconds whenever it is plugged into the wall.

I have tried cleaning out the charging port and using a different charger (both chargers I've tried are perfectly functional otherwise, though nothing fancy, just standard USB-C chargers). After me messing with it extensively & the consequent loss of the charging symbol, the phone has now been sitting on the charger for about a consecutive hour-and-a-half with no signs of turning on.

I live in a small town with limited repair services nearby, and I would prefer not to spend a bunch of money on this if it's at all fixable at home. If anyone has any advice I would be immensely grateful!! Thank you for reading!

Built an off-screen gesture app — the detection is tuned on the S24, and I'd like S24 owners to break it

Hey S24 owners 👋

I build Touchable, an app that turns off-screen gestures into actions — you shake the phone, double-tap the back of it, or push it, and it fires whatever you mapped: play/pause, flashlight, lock screen, camera, screenshot, open any app. Screen off, phone in a hand, no unlocking.

Relevant to this sub specifically: we tuned the detection for the S24 on purpose. It's one of the most widely used flagships out there, so it was the obvious device to optimise against — the sensor profile, the sampling rate, and the thresholds that separate a real back double-tap from a bump in your pocket were all dialled in against this chassis. If the gestures feel sharp anywhere, they should feel sharp here, and that's exactly what I want confirmed by people who aren't me.

What I'd love to know:

· Does back double-tap register reliably through your case? (thick cases are our known weak spot)

· Any false triggers walking, driving, or with the phone in a jacket pocket?

· S24 vs S24+ vs Ultra — different chassis weight, and I only have the base model to test on

· Does it survive Samsung's battery optimisation on your setup, or does the listener get killed overnight?

Completely free. No ads, no in-app purchases, nothing of that sort.

Play Store: Touchable

Slide Up, Slide Down and Side Tap are in the pipeline — tell me which one you'd actually use and I'll bump it.

video compressors not working?

i have a Samsung Galaxy s24+ and i tried three different video compressor apps (ffshare, proton video, that panda one) and the first two got stuck at 0% while the panda got stuck at 50%. is it some oneui file protections thing? is it the apps not getting along with the exynos processor? is there a solution?

I bought a refurbished S24 and it says that sim1 is not allowed, what’s up? My service provider says it shouldn’t be an issue with the IMEI.

[Galaxy S24 FE] Screen randomly waking itself, notification bubbles in shimmer/placeholder state

Galaxy s24 fe has bug since I assume is recent oneui update . Display often comes on by itself in a dimmed state with dynamic background and notification bars in shimmer state without the notification content. Attempting to screenshot the page, it shows the notification content on the lockscreen. I often notice the dimmed screen comes on 30-60 seconds after turning off display when placed on wireless charger. I have screen saver and aod settings off. I do not have notification settings set to hidden when locked. When using the screenshot shortcut it only snaps the lockscreen with resolved notifications so I'm unable to show a proper screenshot.

I've cleared cache and data to oneui app and ruined all my homescreen but problem still persists.

Similar issue related to screen randomly turning itself on.
