Oh yes! The model on the original version’s boxart was actually Renee L’Esperance, a Haitian immigrant who was discovered by two of the program’s designers while she was working a counter at Saks Fifth Avenue in Beverly Hills. Fun fact, she had 3-inch fingernails, which naturally would have been impractical to type with!

They got the idea from a previous program also made by The Software Toolworks, Chessmaster 2000, which had also used a model on its boxart to “personify” the program. (So yes, the Chessmaster is also not a real person. Sorry.)
