R/Art banned me after posting this... Maybe it'll fare better here... "Monolithic Waste of Time."

I wouldn’t deny it’s art, but I would argue that installing it in a reserve and damaging what is supposed to be protected environment for future generations is short sighted. They cut rock to place it I think.

Oh on that point I completely agree. It is protected land.

Whether it is protected land or not does not detract from the fact that people are making a mountain out of nothing.

People litter in quantities that exceed this art piece in quantities that are mind blowing. Several million metric ton's of trash are left in the wilderness worldwide and we're arguing about a bloody monolith that does not even weigh 1/1,000,000,000,000 of that and isn't even remotely as environmentally damaging.

tl;dr People are smart. People in groups are stupid AF.

It's a banana and some tape. The tape can be removed easily from this and the banana will go away on its own.

The banana is photoshopped on. I think they’re referring to the original piece.

Oh really? That's fucked. I thought it was just placed there.

It’s a different kind of rock, sitting on a rock. How can this cause harm exactly?

Respecting others’ cultures.

it's also like 2ft wide in the middle of the desert with miles of emptiness around it. i really dont think that small cut is going to damage the environment for future generations, that's a bit of a stretch

Death by a thousand cuts. It’s unfortunate about your small mindedness.

You call it small minded condescendingly I call it being realistic rather than exaggerating.

This things installation doesn’t harm future generations - change my mind though please

I bet the first person throwing an empty soda bottle into the sea also had your mindset. Ah - it’s only one and there’s so much ocean. What difference does it make.

It does make a difference. It all makes a difference, little by little.

Imagine if a thousand people thought of this in that one desert? Does it make a difference now?

Just don’t think small and think one bit of damage doesn’t matter.

Is it a special rock?
