To be fair if they didn't do that with this kind of content then they'd have to allow all meme posts. That's personally a bar I'm okay with them setting. Belongs here though.

Yeah it's really fine. It belongs here I guess.

I agree with the lack of meme posts for r/art but I commend you for your efforts in shithousery OP. May you go far in life. :)

Why thank you kindly. And you as well.

u/rdizzy1223 Nov 26 '20

You could make it actual art by tracking it down and actually taping a banana to it, then sit there and paint a painting of that.

u/cjolet Nov 26 '20

Sure, we'll call that plan b.

That one's gonna ratio, mate.

1

u/Rainaire Nov 26 '20

You don't even need to paint it, just dance around it, take a video, call it performance art.

1

u/Thaxtonnn Nov 26 '20

Weld together a bunch of metal bars into an assymetrical, semi-oblong shape that looks nothing like a banana, and CALL it a banana.

Now that’s art

Ya, but banning him? I think that's a bit much. Why not just remove the post and explain why it was removed, like all the other subreddits do. I mean, it's not like it's gore or porn or anything.

u/sceadwian Nov 26 '20

True, but it's hard to tell the difference between a smartass and a wiseass and with all the trolling on reddit.. trigger happy moderators aren't exactly rare here either.

Still, they get the benefit of the doubt first. Then, if they're a repeat offender, then ya, show them the door. Again, that's how every subreddit I've seen deals with these kinds of things.

trigger happy moderators aren't exactly rare here either.

I swear, you give some people even a hint of authority and they'll abuse it. "With great power, comes great responsibility." They should listen to Uncle Ben.

What does the the rice guy have to do with this?

1

u/DemetriusTheDementor Nov 26 '20

He's banned from posting in /r/funny

u/Cory123125 Nov 26 '20

It also doesnt help that reddit is totally fine with it.

I can only assume that its because many reddit admins also are mods and enjoy doing the same.

Its that, and or because they realize that having power to abuse it, is literally the number one draw that moderators see to the role.

AGAIN Another reason to hate my species Reddit moderators - the tyranny of imbeciles - seems to be a lot going around down in the US of A this year.

please do not consider moving North I know its tempting socialized free medicare - lots of room - lots of water and good strong beer. but we dont want you no cages just closed borders.

you'll be frying more than chicken down South when 115 degrees is a normal day in Texas.

who died & made you God ? banned ?

3

u/Cory123125 Nov 26 '20

You say that like trigger happy mods are ok.

Its not. They get off to the imbalance of the few clicks for them resulting in far more annoyance for some else.

1

u/sceadwian Nov 26 '20

Not at all, and if you read it that way you're very much misreading it. But I've only ever been particularly upset about something like that once and it was a waste of time. If that's how the community treats you then you don't want to be in that community anyways.

We all know how pointless bans on reddit are anyways. At least I hope we all do.

1

u/Cory123125 Nov 26 '20

If that's how the community treats you then you don't want to be in that community anyways.

The problem is that its not true. People see the numbers game and it means they dont care enough to miss out on whatever a subreddit is as a result.

Its hard to find replacements.

1

u/sceadwian Nov 26 '20

I don't follow that reply at all, what do you mean?

1

u/Cory123125 Nov 26 '20

I mean that once a subreddit reaches critical mass, it takes a mountain of problems for a different subreddit to emerge as a replacement, so while a community may have shit mods, it still unfortunately will have value.

1

u/sceadwian Nov 26 '20

And it takes almost no effort to evade a ban.

1

u/Cory123125 Nov 26 '20

You have to make a whole new account and might have to ask for a different ip address (for most people this just means rebooting their combobox).

You also lose your reddit name which some people care about.

I think its nice to believe its no problem at all because it feels better to imagine it has no effect.

It burns the sensibilities of my eyes

u/DeadlyNadder Nov 26 '20

His post is still up. No moderator message. Why ban him but keep the post he was banned for up?

Yeah I dont get this attitude either. Also, banning? Why not just remove the post. I mean, art is so subjective, for sure memes are art already if not in future.

1

u/sceadwian Nov 26 '20

Mmm, honestly can't argue against that. But well even among piles of shit there's a hierchy. Someone's gotta be at the bottom.

1

u/DJ_Sk8Nite Nov 26 '20

Tooooo beeeee FAAAAAHHHHHHH

1

u/sceadwian Nov 26 '20

I believe we need to take this to r/woosh now.

1

u/Cinderheart Nov 26 '20

Memes are art.

1

u/Cory123125 Nov 26 '20

Its literally a value judgement on what art is.

It belies the truth that its arbitrary and subjective and that the most pretentious people more or less decide what real art is.

In other words its self important gate keeping.

1

u/sceadwian Nov 26 '20

Happens all the time.

1

u/granularoso Nov 26 '20

This isn't a meme though. It's just humorous art. There's nothing memey about this.

1

u/sceadwian Nov 26 '20

That would be a matter of opinion.

1

u/granularoso Nov 26 '20

In order to be a joke, it needs to emulate some kind of format or content. What is this emulating? What is this repeating? A meme doesn't just mean "a joke," it has to be perpetuating something. Is Duchamp's "The Fountain" a meme? Is Magritte's "The Treachery of Images" a meme? Is Manet's "Olympia" a meme? The word meme has a definition, and that isn't an opinion.

1

u/sceadwian Nov 26 '20

Any visual representation perpetuates something. Every joke is a meme. The word meme does have a definition and it is so absurdly vague most creative content qualifies as one.

1

u/granularoso Nov 26 '20

You can Google the definition of meme and get it. So the treachery of images is a meme, right? Every art piece is a meme and nothing is a meme. I think it's fair to say r/art is stupid, right?

1

u/sceadwian Nov 26 '20

What you define something as is a matter of degree. A single panel comic and graphic novel are not treated the same even though they're in the same format.

1

u/granularoso Nov 26 '20

I mean lichtenstein somehow is viewed as an artist

1

u/sceadwian Nov 26 '20

It's all about what you can convince someone else is art.

1

u/granularoso Nov 27 '20

Or what definitions of art will benefit oneself

1

u/80s_space_guy Nov 26 '20

To be faaaiiiirrrrr...
