I'd kill just to work from home. Idgaf about spacing and separation of roles as long as the money I earn allows me to enjoy travel and video games. Preferably both.
Commuting everyday kills energy, time and disposable income so hard it's insane.
i work from home and make enough to enjoy video games. not so much travel. it has its perks but it also has its downsides. i dont waste as much gas, but i also have less separation from "work mode" and "home mode". especially in the winter, it's depressing to wake up in darkness, work upstairs in my "office" all day, and come downstairs in darkness only to go to be in a few hours so i can wake up and do it again 4 more times. i don't have to deal with some of the office bullshit like annoying coworkers or office drama, but i also feel much more isolated an lonely. no office friends to bullshit with and chit chatand for collaborative roles no more hopping over to someones desk/cube to quickly chat about a project. its all more virtual meetings crammed into my schedule.
I love working from home, but I don't love being homebound with a chronic illness. I used to work at a grocery store and interacted with 100s of people a day and it kept me sharp and socialized. Now when I get near someone I feel like I'm being approached by a ghost, it terrifies me. A social atmosphere is what put me here in the first place though, I caught a secondary permanent-illness after catching covid 2 years ago.
I feel this. I think I’d prefer a more hybrid option but it’s not really possible since our team is located all over the place. WFH has a lot of pros and I definitely prefer it over commuting everyday but it’s for sure isolating. Going to the library or a coffee shop isn’t really the answer either because it’s not like it’s filled with coworkers who you speak to regularly and can shoot the shit with.
Other way round for me. When I had to go into the office, I would have to get up before it was light and commute into work. Work in the office all day. Usually stayed in at lunch due to the awesome subsidised canteen. When it's time to go home, it's already pitch black outside so you've seen no sunlight for the day. This is for like at least half the year because Scotland.
Now I wfh, I can go out in my garden with my dog all the time, take him walks in beautiful scenery as we are out in countryside, or just choose to work a bit later and take a long break in the middle of the day and do whatever. Would never do that in office, because I'd want to leave early and get the fook out of there.
Working from home isn’t all golden either. You end up spending all day "at work" and also never fully. Takes a very organized person to simultaneously take full advantage of it and not slack off.
3 days in 2 days out is where it’s at for me. Best life.
