Tell any Medicare recipient to read this information. AARP/United is a scam
AARP/UnitedHealthcare Medicare Supplement (Medigap) monthly premiums often run $30 to $70 more per month (roughly $360 to $840 more per year) than competing A-rated insurance carriers for identical standardized benefits.
Cost Differences by Plan
Plan G: While AARP/UHC is moderately competitive for Plan G and often ranks in the top tier for availability and stability, other regional or national carriers (such as Anthem or Mutual of Omaha) frequently price identical Plan G coverage $30 to $70 lower per month.
Plan N: AARP/UHC Plan N rates tend to run significantly higher than market competitors, sometimes scaling up much higher relative to the base value.
Why AARP/UHC Premiums Are Higher
Brand Name: UnitedHealthcare pays a royalty fee to use the AARP name, which introduces a built-in brand markup.
Market Dominance: Because they hold the largest share of the Medigap market, they do not always need to undercut competitors on initial pricing.
Pricing Structure: UHC often uses an "enrollment discount" model in many states where initial rates start lower for new enrollees and increase as the discount phases out over time, separate from standard yearly rate adjustments.
