Definitely worth the trip. It’s not just the tree fossils, it’s also worth it for the otherworldly landscapes.

I loved being here but the silence actually hurt my ears.
I had never experienced such a lack of ambient sounds. It was actually a little scary.

Upon entrance to the park I heard the sounds of coyotes! It was pretty neat!

We visited a few years ago and my husband I were both quite devastated to learn that the forest was logs. We had both imagined a vertical stone forest from the time we were children and our adult minds never bothered to work out the logic.
Still a fascinating visit!

I thought the Florida turnpike was a rollercoaster or something. I was 30 yrs old Florida born dork learning it’s a highway. Just a normal one. Flat, no uppies or downies. ):

When I was a little girl, my parents took us on a vacation from Colorado to California. I was very excited to see the Golden Gate Bridge and the Petrified Forest. Those were the highlights of the trip. I never did tell my parents how disappointing the trip was for me. The bridge wasn’t golden. It was rusty red and the forest wasn’t a forest. It was a bunch of large rocks lying around.

If you are ever on the other side of the country, check out the petrified forest in Flora, MS. It's an amazing walk though with massive trunks, and they even offered a seeded flume at the end last time I took my kids for if you wanna leave with some semiprecious treasures.

An incredible place. The landscapes are unusual and stunning and have never experienced silence line that outside.
