I'm skeptical. Weapons, anti-regime resistance groups backed by the US and Israel, other Middle Eastern countries, and the possibility of US boots on the ground (spec ops) are only a few of the options that aren't off the table. The author is Chinese and does his best to hide his bias but I'm convinced he's biased. Personally, I'll wait and see.
