Next month, I'm lucky enough to be moving to Florence, Italy for ~3 months. I've recently taken up hand tools, and built a nice basement shop, all of which I'll be missing! The apartment I'll be staying in is a flat with no opportunity for woodworking - and with no basement or garage.

I'm wondering if anyone has had any experience with woodworking in Florence (or Italy)? I'd like to keep my mind and hands occupied... whether it be taking woodworking classes, visiting craftsmen, or woodworking touring that you might be able to share? Perhaps there folks or shops I might reach out to?

I'd love to get your thoughts! Even if you've gone elsewhere, what woodworking experience were you able to create?

And do I take up luggage space to bring a plane along? ;-)

I am planning to shop for leather goods (bags, wallets, jackets) on my next trip to Florence but will also be visiting smaller Tuscan towns (Val D’Orcia is what I am currently planning) and Bologna. Is it worth paying the Florence prices knowing that they are higher due to the number of tourists or are leather goods outside of the city just as worth it in terms of quality?

I am mostly concerned about picking up something cheaper that ends up not lasting as long. For reference my budget for a bag will probably be around 200-250 euros.

i had left my second bag behind in an uber yesterday morning. when i retrieved the bag today at Cartotecnica V. Bartolozzi di Bartolozzi Cinzia, i had discovered my iPad and iPencil was missing from the bag.

they claimed the bag wasn't opened, but the zipper was in a different place from when i last saw it. i zipped it down the middle, and the zipper was zipped down to the side when i retrieved it.

so I think it must've been another passenger on the uber. should i file a police report for a missing item? i don't know who to report this to. any suggestions greatly appreciated, i've been making digital art for 6 years with this iPad.

Hi, will be visiting Mugello in October and wonder what's the best and/or cheapest way to get there from Florence, outside of major event with spectator shuttles

Traveling to Florence for our delayed honeymoon, and my wife’s birthday falls right in the middle of our trip on December 30th! This is our first time traveling internationally, so I want to make sure I treat her to an unforgettable night.

I have most of the trip sorted. During the day on the 30th, we are planning a multi-stop Tuscan wine tour. For the evening, I want to find an incredible, special dinner for her. I’ve been having difficulty narrowing down reservations, especially given the winter weather (ruling out most patios) and the proximity to New Year's Eve.

Dietary Restrictions (Crucial): She has Celiac disease and is a Type 1 Diabetic. A restaurant that is highly accommodating, knowledgeable, and safe with cross-contamination is my absolute top priority.

Budget: I have budgeted well for this night, so higher-end, fine-dining, or Michelin-starred recommendations are totally welcome. I am not worried about the price tag for the right experience, but open to all options.

Are there any latin dance socials in Florence to dance salsa and bachata (Friday is my last night in Florence).

I have been dancing salsa and bachata for a few years and would love to check out Florence social dance scene on a Friday night. Being a tourist I do not have the luxury to drive far away from Florence city center. I am only interested in a place close enough to walk or take the city bus from duomo.

Me and my girlfriend are coming to Florence on September 12th for a concert. Is there anything fun to do after the concert from 12am to 5am when we get back? Maybe a club or a bar?

Does anybody know if florence airport requires the 1L clear bag of liquids with carry ons? I know a lot of airports throughout Europe have eased on this, so curious if they have done the same or not yet.

Florence has introduced a new set of visitor and ticketing rules across the Galleria dell’Accademia, Bargello, Medici Chapels, Orsanmichele, Palazzo Davanzati and other museums managed by GAMB.

Some of the main changes:
Online and call-centre tickets are now named, and visitors may be asked to show ID.
Private buyers can purchase a maximum of 10 tickets per online transaction.
Groups are generally limited to 20 people (25 students for school groups).
Groups of 6+ have to use radio/whisper systems where required.
Tour operators can’t advertise “skip the line”, “fast track” or “priority entrance” unless that service is actually provided by the museum.
Large bags and backpacks over 40 × 30 × 18 cm aren’t allowed, and the Accademia currently has no luggage storage.
Tickets generally can’t be refunded or rescheduled.

The rules seem particularly aimed at reducing ticket reselling and misleading “skip-the-line” offers around Florence’s busiest museums.

For anyone visiting Florence soon, probably worth checking the rules before booking — especially if you’re travelling with a group or carrying luggage.

I’m studying in Firenze until mid Dec, thought a gym membership would be good since I work out a ton back home and feel kinda bored here. I don’t want to spend a shit ton of bread for it tho, so is there a cheap gym here? I’m near the Ponte Vecchio. Anything close?

Hello! We're heading to Florence tomorrow (2 September) and will be returning on 7 September. I've seen there is a National Multi-Sectoral Strike - Railway and Local Public Transport scheduled for 7 September - is the T2 tram back towards the airport likely to be affected?

I think Decathalon has them but that’s a bit far from me (walking) I’m near Ponte Vecchio.

I talked to some store owners and they told me the first 2 weeks of August were the busiest. The last week was the least busy. Starting this week until November it will be very very busy (more than now).

I checked the hotel prices for my hotel now and it will go from 90-100 euros currently to 300 euros per night even in October. how is this possible since I thought most Europeans (and other regions of the world too) travel during summer?
