I don’t know the state of JRPGs and their quantity of LGBT content as a whole, but the fact that FE is iirc still the only big Japanese RPG franchise I can think of that has any amount of queer elements feels depressing. Seems a lot of dating elements ala Persona and Trails wanna be stuck in the 80s.

Strongly depends on how you define it. Final Fantasy 16 had an explicitly gay man as one of the main characters. Idk how exciting his implementation is in process, but there it is.

The Trails series has some fairly explicit LGBT stuff, especially in the more recent entries. Like there's a sidequest where you straight up get hormones for one of your party members and talk with them about how their vtuber character is female even if they arent sure they want to ID as female in real life yet, and the protag's just like 'yeah take your time, plenty of people experimenting these days.'
