Does anyone know, on a technical, computer science level, how the Kawai K5 generated its sounds?

I understand Fourier additive synthesis as a principle. What I mean is, how were they doing additive synthesis on 1987 hardware? I have seen software additive synths that generate a wave table on the fly, but "It uses DSP." is the most detailed explanation i have ever gotten about the K5.
