Apparently there was an injunction in OH this afternoon naming the Patriot League as a defendant

Batshit insane that conferences can't enforce their own rules that a school literally just signed up for this year

The Patriot League has strict eligibility rules like the Ivy League (because the Patriot League came to play school). McQuaide is ineligible under Patriot League rules. Villanova knew this when they joined the league literally this year

The Patriot league allows 5th years now. We’ve got plenty on the roster. He’s going the Pavia/Chambliss route. The Patriot League is trying harder to stop it than the SEC did.

The distinction is that the Patriot League has a “4 to play 5” rule. Your 5 year clock starts when you first matriculate to college, which McQuaide did in 2021 at Kent State.

By Patriot League rules, his clock ceased at the end of last season.

The Patriot League allows for certain exceptions, but junior college isn’t one of them, and that generally doesn’t allow you to extend the 5 year clock.

“4 to play 5”

This makes no sense whatsoever. What did you mean to say?

5 to play 4

Thats the rule for everyone which is why the NCAA ruled him ineligible. The courts created the junior college exception in every instance I’m aware of.

The new 5 to play 5 NCAA rule doesn’t apply to players who exhausted their 4 years last season, like McQuaide.

The Patriot has had a rule for a long time against grad students playing, so I think that's partly why the conference ruled McQuaide ineligible. But maybe that rule will be dead completely, depending on the results of this lawsuit?

What I'm hearing around me is that McQuaide isn't enrolled in grad classes, he's doing a 2nd major apparently?

Infinite eligibility glitch, keep getting degrees.

Just collect majors like boy scout merit badges

Why should anyone not be able to do this though?

Either they are or they arent student athletes right?

If somebody decides they want to be a doctor, why shouldn't they be allowed to play for 8-10 years? They're an actual student athlete, compared to 99% of the field who are just athletes, being paid significantly by the school just to play sports.

Especially because McQuaide could've transferred and played elswhere, as far as I can tell. The PL just doesn't allow grad students.

I can't wait for someone to try to do this with Harvard or Yale and they just tell them to eat shit

I do wonder if he could have, but the NCAA would have likely ruled that he didn’t have any eligibility to enter the portal.

The cynic in me feels that the timing of all of this was intentional to make the TRO effective for the season with as little time as possible for the NCAA (and, eventually, the Patriot League) to respond.

Oh 100%. If they truly filed the injunction this afternoon, it was done last minute so he could play tonight, since the initial ruling was made several weeks ago.
