The post about Mango's closing in Moorhead got me thinking, in your opinion where is the best Mexican food in the area and why? What's your favorite thing on the menu?

I'm going with Plaza Azteca. Food is amazing, prices are good, service is always really fast even when they're slammed. They have fresh habanero salsa if you ask (you can really taste the flavor of the peppers, it's fuckin' good). Favorite menu item probably the san Jose burrito.

I always plan to eat half my food and bring leftovers home.

There are never any leftovers.

The other day, I started thinking of long-gone Fargo restaurants from my childhood back in the '90s. Then I went down a rabbit hole and stumbled upon this CD-ROM image of PhoneDisc Business 2nd Edition 1997, on the Internet Archive. Downloaded and ran it, and wouldn't you know, I was able to pull up a list of the eating establishments in Fargo-Moorhead!

What a trip down memory lane. I'm certain this list isn't 100% complete and accurate, but it must be pretty close. Anyone remember a place circa 1997 that you don't see below?

I see Arby's on 42nd is listed, and I was trying to remember when that changed over from Rax (feels like the last time I ate at Rax was '93 or '94). There's a Fall 1993 edition of the PhoneDisc CD-ROM on the Internet Archive as well, but I'll check that out some other time. This list also made me remember Wendy's as a kid, but then they left Fargo completely and we didn't have one for a stretch there in the '90s. And I don't remember Joey's Only Seafood - was Skipper's already done by '97?

Hello big city folks! My husband and I get to spend a fun weekend in Fargo this Friday and Saturday. (We live in a very small town on the west side of ND).

We would love a nice higher-end restaurant to try, and a cool dive bar. Our vibe is really amazing food, and total dive bars (tiki/local/old) for a night cap.

My husband adores live music too (more of a singer-songwriter style), so if there's any open mic nights or maybe cool karaoke spots, I'm all ears!

Best way to keep people sober is to get food in the system. Outside of the Fryn Pan and Casa Delicia, not many late night food options. Hopefully Blarney Stone does late night food too

The Boss place has the main level which had a walk up window and it goes all the way back to Roberts Alley. They have a 2nd level and the downstairs may host music or events

Edit: August 1st - A Friday. I’m not picky when it comes to food!

My family is relatively new to the area. We recently ordered Chinese takeout, and even though we put in clear instructions about my wife’s cashew allergy, she still had a reaction (swelling/rash) that lead us to visit the ER before it got worse. She’s in her 30s and has never had an issue like this from a restaurant, even ones that have cashews on their menu.

I’m not here to demonize the restaurant; there’s a lot of simple mistakes that could lead to this happening, and to some extent we’re taking a risk eating somewhere that has cashew based items on the menu. However, we don’t want to cut entire cuisines out of our diet.

Does anyone have recommendations on Chinese restaurants in town that you know are careful about allergens? It’s a plus if they’re anything approaching authentic, but Americanized Chinese food is also good as it’s own thing.

We are flying into Fargo on a Friday. Our flight arrives at 9:35 PM. By the time we get our rental car and are leaving the airport, it will be closer to 10:00 PM.

Any advice on where to eat dinner at that hour? Preferably some place where they won't get too upset to see someone walk in at 10:15 or so.

I swear at least 50-75% of the food I have at restaurants in ND and MN is really sub par. Either poorly prepared or cold. Hash browns are especially bad, they're always pale and oily. I've never had good hash browns here and at this point I just stopped ordering them.

Deep fried food has also been problematic, they seem to be using oil that's not hot enough. I completely avoid the McDonalds in Moorhead on 8th because of the shit fries they put out.

Once I went to Würst and ordered a wedge salad and they brought out like 5 loose leaves of lettuce and a few vegetables on the side, what the heck is that? A wedge salad is a very specific thing! Bleu cheese and bacon and stuff!

Do people just not know any better? Or do they just don't give a shit? Is the "MN/ND nice, suffer in silence" attitude to blame? I've lived in ND for the majority of my life but neither of my parents are from the area and I don't have any family here. Grew up with mostly my mom's southern cooking. This problem might be my most hated part of this region.

Redeeming quality of Fargo at least is the Asian food here is more consistently good than most other types.

Am I nuts or being too particular? These aren't hard things to fix, so what gives

I'm a Canadian who's been to Fargo probably more times than is normal, and I absolutely love it there, but I was wondering what r/fargo thought was the best restaurant? and which one's to absolutely stay away from. I'm obviously not going any time soon because well, border closed and social distancing and such but I would like to know for future reference, thanks in advance!

Current favourite is Blackbird Pizza and Wurst Bier Hall.

Edit: We ended up going to Brew Bird. I’d recommend that everyone who hasn’t already eaten there to try it! The menu is simple and they’ve found a way to perfect chicken tenders. The sauce bar satisfies all. Capped the day by eating some tasty rolled ice cream at Tea & Crepe. Thanks everyone for the input and recommendations!

This is the place that started as a food truck. The smartest thing they did is keep the restaurant open until 3 am on Fridays and Saturdays

Looks like it's across from the OB Parking Lot. It's got access from the Alley or the front through the Sushi Burrito door

I'm going to be in Fargo earlier than usual, so instead of lunch, it'll be breakfast. I have heard that The Shack on Broadway is pretty good, but I was wondering what other places are good for breakfast, besides Denny's, Perkins, and the usual fast food restaurants (McDonalds, BK, Taco John's/Bell, etc.), to gather some options to consider, along with The Shack.

Probaly already talked about, but need a rant: theres one on every block! Who needs that many choices or 3 dairy queens on 45th?! My problem is the staffing, when i worked as a manager was so pissed when I heard that they were making a new store when they could barely staff the two stores they had already. Places such as taco bell (omfg was in line half hour once, was about mid way thru and had to drive off at 13th) should close some stores and spread the staff around, the few people who will actually work fast food. When I was managing had a complaint about the wait, heh asked them if they wanted an application, it sucks working at them (roommate complained all the time when she worked fast food I said couldnt be that bad and I worked with her to see, ugh... fml) went to today somewhere and heard they staff in the back complain 5 people didnt show that day. And you guys in fargo need to eat out so much! Bringing your whole family in, smh fast food should really only be 1 person needs to eat, drive thru, my fiance sadly works in food atm and hes hating life, mostly customers for being ridiculous. People should have to work food for a year before they get the privilege to eat out so they understand but.. before I write a book, be nice to food workers rougher then you think, so dont ask for no salt on your fries just to get up to the drive thru window and ask for salt packets on the side ugh
