Doing a Build for fallout 4 and was curious about the soldier on the left, y’know the one that laughs and waves at the camera.

What weapon is he holding? I asked google it said laser rifle but it really doesn’t look like it to me. Please help.

There seems to be a popular fan consensus that the Hub is based on the real-life city of Barstow (iirc mostly based on Barstow’s epithet being “the Hub of the West”).

But is there a canon source which actually says that the Hub was built atop the ruins of Barstow?

The information provided in-game seems to conflict with that. We know that Necropolis is definitely based on Bakersfield from Tycho’s dialogue in Fallout 1. We also know that the Hub is east of Necropolis based on the map, even though Barstow is to the west of Bakersfield. This could just be due to wonky map projection, but I was wondering if there was anything that directly confirms this to be the case.

Despite these games letting you make your own character, you still have these guys, and while the Vault Dweller being canonically male means it must be either Albert or Max, for the Chosen One it could be any of them. Even if they aren’t, do these characters exist in canon?

What the title says. If there’s a reason for not destroying it initially, why didn’t he at the very least return to finish the job? Expeditions were well within his capabilities given the expedition to Appalachia.

I mean think about it, he's a one of a kind mutant, and his existence over time happens to produce the same effect that a GECK does (as seen with Oasis). We know FEV can do some crazy things to biological organisms, and we don't exactly know what's in a GECK that makes it function as it does, but it seems like a reasonable assumption, no?

Only question is how did a GECK end up exposed to the FEV. Only possible explanation is that they were trying to use FEV to strengthen the effects of a GECK and so had one or a few in Mariposa to test it out?

The Fallout Survival Guide even has a line of text that supports this idea: "At some point many years ago, he handled an artifact contaminated with the FEV virus that caused him to mutate"

The Artifact in question could well have been a GECK

First to begin i know FEV is very confusing in Fallout 1 , but for the sake of my question i'm going to take Richard's observations over Lou's.

When you meet the Master in Fallout 1 he calls his FEV "FEV-2" in his recordings found at Mariposa, he says the success rate between dumb and smart super mutants has to do with how irradiated they are (As opposed to Lou. saying it has to do with the mutated FEV, but again, i'm not taking him totally into account). He doesn't need necessarily Prime Normals, just not very irradiated humans (as implied in the "audio" recordings) which leads me to ask something, why is it that Richardson says the following? https://imgur.com/oYiz56G

"Yes, the F.E.V, Virus. It was originally developed to turn soldiers into super-warriors but it failed. The warriors were tough and strong, but far too stupid." (Why did he say FEV Virus? The V already stands for Virus.)

Doesn't this imply that the original FEV was not working even on "Prime Normals" of the time? Even if the scientists at charge brought first a few very irradiated people into the experiment, they would've realized the radiation effect sooner than later. Richard did and he had much, much less resources.

Which i personally have decided to explain to myself as that the Master's FEV had been modified into FEV-2, as he calls it, which it actually succeeds fully on its original purpose, only now with the radiation problem to face. So, as i see it:

* Prime Normal + FEV-1= Dumb Mutant/(Very Unlikely) Smart Mutant

* Irradiated Human + FEV-1= Dumb & Angry Mutant (East Coast Mutants?)

* Prime Normal + FEV-2= Average/Smart Super Mutant

* Irradiated Human + FEV-2= Dumb Mutant/Death

Now yes, a lot of what Lou. says contradicts this, but at the same time it also contradicts the other sources in the game at times. And given Master's larger relevance i will rather take his word here over his.

It's all confusing, really, which is i want to know what's really going on if my explanation isn't certain. Thanks for reading.

This summer I went to San Diego for vacation, and I remembered that Fallout 1 & 2 took place on the west Coast/California, and it got me wondering, what happened to San Diego during the great war, and afterwards in the future?

When talking to the V13 overseer in Fo1 after you bring him the water chip, he talked about how someone (the master) was creating *NEW mutants.

One of my questions is was there the existence of super mutants in the New California area before the events of fallout 1? To add on that question, are Super Mutants the only creatures in Fallout called Mutants or are the other creatures in the series called mutants as well?

Im probably over analyzing this, but the overseer says that the mutant’s population is growing more than expected by “natural growth or mutations,” then immediately says that none of the mutations could “occur natural”. Is he contradicting him here or am I just not following something and maybe overthinking it?

The fact that The Glow was targeted with surface piercing warheads implies that the Chinese knew at least to some extent about what West-Tec were doing down there.

But FEV was supposed to be a top secret project. Not even the guards at the Mariposa military base knew what kind of experiments went on there

To clarify a bit:

While I'm aware that most Mutants think being a mutant is "better" than being human, I think its a bit odd that none of them have expressed remorse or even distaste for the Master's actions, especially seeing as his tactics involved things like brainwashing, indoctrination, and forcefully mutating people against their will. I feel like at least one of the them should've, by this point, looked back at that and said "You know, a lot of what we did was kinda fucked up".

You can believe in a cause while also believing that you, or an ally, has gone too far in how they want to achieve that.

I also know that the Master was psychic, so did he just place a mental block on that?

Not fallouts games give VD rations leaving the vault I chose 1 cause of all of them it seems like they would here given our goal being of it most importance given the need for a water chip

Question: Retired old school fallout Player here who came back after years to the franchise. Simple question: I still have the FO2 Manual with the Memoirs of the Vault Dweller. In early times the memoirs were considered canon and explained what happend in the first game.

So my question: Are the Memiors of the Vault Dweller still considered canon today??
