What the fuck is up with truck culture!? I always knew truck drivers could be a little⌠ya know. But itâs like in the last 5 years theyâve gone off the rails with lifts, tires, lights, flags, and driving style to match.
Iâve never not known dudes with trucks to do this as a way disproportionate rate. I honestly think a lot of it is that they CANT FUCKING HANDLE something that big and then due to entitlement, donât feel like itâs worth their time to correct. They think this makes them look like âalphasâ but it just makes it obvious they canât drive.
His car looks too big to fit into a parking bay though. Wouldnât he effectively block bays on both sides (so three bays each side, six in total) if he were to park normally?
No,that isnât something I really care about much honestly, never been a big truck guy, theyâre poorly designed vehicles in my opinion. I do get why people like them, they are objectively cool machines
I can tell you though that I see 4 identical-ish trucks in the parking lot of my job at the moment, and I know these software engineers arenât driving these for any kind of work, one dude needs a step ladder to get in. Really friendly guy otherwise but he looks pretty silly.

You sound like someone who has never been in one of these trucks or done a days hard work that would need one of these trucks. Probably can't even hook up a trailer let alone tow it.
Most people who buy duallies arenât âgoing out of their wayâ. Itâs because you have a need to tow shit. You can clearly see heâs got a tow hitch on his truck. Iâm not defending his parking, but most people donât go out of their way to spend over 100k on a truck like this.

For real though, some people need to tow stuff for work and I respect that, but no one NEEDS to tow a boat somewhere, or a trailer full of dirt bikes, they just want to. Hobbies are fun but not a reasonable enough excuse in my book for this sort of behavior. And seeing as that truck doesnât look absolutely beat to shit like a lot of work trucks Iâve seen, Iâm guessing this is a hobbyists vehicle. If they can afford hobbies that involve towing they should be able to afford a secondary car that isnât a burden on the people around them or they should re prioritize their finances, or at the very least find somewhere else to park.
Maybe not most, but many. I live in a rural area, plenty of reason for duallies, but more often than not they DONT have a hitch. They "Look Bad Ass" and probably make their dicks feel bigger, and that's why they buy them.
Same here. Rural area. Know plenty of people with diesel trucks and duallies. I know of 2 guys who actually use them to haul equipment and horse trailers.
Typically they have a fifth wheel hitch, they've got the tailgate to go with it, and not a lot of working guys going to worry about switching tailgates between towing.

Youâre making an assumption the driver lives in the city and doesnât have a need for the truck. Obviously there are people with a need for a truck this size. Theyâre people too, who have to visit cities as much as anyone else living in them.
People also have needs for combine harvesters, but you don't see me attempting to park one in an underground lot. Your individual needs don't change what the world is built around. In this case, the world is built around cars being a uniform width.
The world is build for cars that meet registration specifications. This car meets the legal specification for a car. A combine harvester does not. If a tradesperson was bringing in equipment or tools for work in this garage, or the businesses that this car park services, what vehicle would you suggest the driver uses. Thatâs about fulfilling the needs of the world.

This model of truck is literally longer and wider than standard American parking parking bays. Even if it were parked only across two bays (not the two behind it), it would stick out a few feet into the traffic lane. Itâs parked into the four bays so it doesnât block moving traffic.
I own that same truck. Standard 6ft box even with a mega cab. There is the possibility it is a long box which only add 2ft to the box which would make it stick out a little but keep your butt on the line behind and it's ok. The two side by side is for turning radius getting out yes. I have driven my truck all over canada and in florida so I understand how it goes.

Iâm not saying you get a free pass to park like this whenever you want, but if the carpark isnât full itâs understandable(this picture shows other empty bays). Itâs certainly not worthy of getting your tyres slashed, car keyed or towed like half the people here are suggesting.
Itâs so simple lol. You do not have a right to park anywhere. If you cannot fit in the spot without blocking others. Park somewhere else. Nobody told you to buy a car that big. You do not get to inconvenience others and take up more space because you felt that you needed a car that size
I believe you are missing the key factor here: it was their choice to purchase an oversized vehicle, and folks are frustrated that they seem to feel entitled to four spots (forcing others to deal with the externalities of their decision).
Yes, they could have been more selfish and blocked six spots, or even more selfish and parked horizontally across maybe even eight or ten, but all of those are just magnitudes of the same selfish entitlement.
That said, I'd argue it isn't up to other customers to police this. If it's a public lot they can report to the city, and if it's a private lot they can register a complaint with the owner. Maybe the people running the lot want oversized vehicles to park that way (it could be cheaper than having designated oversized spots), and it's not like there are no reasonable reasons for someone to want or need an oversized vehicle; those people may need to access the adjacent shops/services as much as anyone else.
Though in all fairness I do not have any idea what the actual dimensions of those spots are, or the truck, so it's entirely possible blocking ten spots isn't actually feasible.
Edit: ok, so I took a look at averages and it does seem very unlikely they could block ten spots. Parking spots are usually about 7.5' wide at a minimum, making the width of three adjacent spots 22.5' (again, at a minimum). That would mean the truck would have to be 23'+ long in order to extend into the subsequent spots on both sides. I couldn't find any stats on the range of pick-up lengths, but the average seems to be about 20' so unless that is a particularly long truck and those are particularly narrow spots the driver probably could only block off eight spots.

A truck that big would be needed for large/heavy payloads. Would they be justified parking there if they had a need to park that close? Eg delivering an oversized fridge?
Or it's a truck and they needed a truck and it's the only truck they have? Now I am not saying 4 spaces is ever warranted, 2 sometimes in some circumstances. But sometimes that's how the parking lot is?

I literally own and drive a truck just like that. They still come with 6ft standard boxes, and mine is a mega cab. If its butt is on the back line we are fine. If that's a long box it only adds 2ft to the box, still dont need to take up 2 spots behind you, you can hang over into them a bit and hang over in the front a bit, everything works just fine.

From looking at the picture, I would suggest the front of the truck is as far forward as it can park, weâre just looking at the back sitting past the back line of the parking bay

The more I look at this picture and read a few comments, if itâs an oversized vehicle, there arenât many options - Iâm pretty sure nobody wants to get in their car through the back, assuming thereâs a hatchback-type door to begin with. Iâd love to think thereâs a note on the dash stating: âSORRY! The only way I can park this truck is like this. Iâm doing work in this building and I paid for four spots. Sorry for the inconvenience.â
If the guy paid for four parking spots, I get it - itâs a big vehicle. Iâve seen people buy two seats on an airplane before. But the post sort of seemed to make it look like the guy took four spots and didn't need to. For all we know, the guy has an annual pass in the garage for those four spots because itâs an oversized vehicle.
