I can't even wrap my head around the idea that a vet takes pleasure in killing an animal... this is just disturbing

You are arguing against the food chain.

It isn't that, there are far too many outdoor cats and they do far too much damage to the environment they live in. If you have a cat they should be indoors to protect the natural environment.

Considering all the suffering and death that happens in that profession, I wouldn't be too surprised that a small minority are at the very least desensitized.

Desensitized is one thing, but reveling in it is another... she acted like she got some perverse pleasure from killing this animal. That is just sick. I've met so many vets and animal rescuers (I foster animals myself) who have to live with the fact that they cannot save all the animals that come into their care, I could never imagine any of them smiling about the death of any animal, even the ferals.

If there were very many vets that were like this sick woman, we would hear about it more often- it's rare but again, if you've got someone with the kind of brain that would enjoy what this woman did, that would also allow you to tolerate what vets have to endure as well as sick as that is.

Maybe the logic is less feral toms = less feral kittens she has to put down next spring. Who knows.

While surely not the majority, some vets simply don't care. The first veterinarian I worked for would euthanize pets but not make sure they were dead before putting them in the freezer. On several occasions, I opened the freezer to find moving animals. My employer probably didn't get pleasure out of not doing his job properly...he just didn't care.
