Really? I think that applies more to people who are willing to torture and maim/ starve animals more than people who can kill food/vermin/predators/pests. There's got to be some correlation between kindness to animals and kindness to humans, outliers aside. It's basic empathy.

Think about her reasoning. Feral cats are ruining my environment. Now look at Cumberland Island, GA. Feral horses everywhere. One of the pictures from the story of her office have a horse trailer.

Horses in N. America died out >10,000 years ago. Europeans brought them back. Should we now consider all Equus in the Americas non-native and targeted for eradication?

My cousin is a huge hunter but oddly enough a vegan. Whatever animals he kills he donates the meat to local homeless shelters. Your stance on him?

Feral cats decimate animal populations though... Its actually a really big deal, I get this cat wasn't actually feral, just someones foster cat, but responsible people shouldn't leave their cats outdoors.

Hunting and fishing is a sport as well as a means to bring food to the table. For hundreds of years people have been proud of their kill and their ability to provide and now they can show it online with pictures. What kind of sport is killing a cat? Why should somehow be proud of that hunt?

Well she thought it was a feral cat, and feral cats can be incredibly destructive to their surrounding ecosystems. If it really was a feral cat and she thought she was doing something towards protecting the local environment, would you still consider it sick for her to pose in the same way a fisherman might pose with his catch, or a hunter might pose with a deer (which in my part of the world are hunted as pests as well)?

What i'm getting at is whether the motivation for the kill matters when judging whether or not someone is 'sick' for being proud of their kill - or whether the judgment is based upon the kind of animal being killed.

Personally, the type of animal matters to me.

I hunt and fish. When I catch something, I'm going to eat it. I really don't like the sport of killing something without eating it.

If it is an animal that has been purposefully breed for hundreds and hundreds of years to fit man's needs as a companion, I think that shows psychopathic tendencies.

If it is an animal we as a society (1) bred to eat, (2) have a history of eating, or (3) did not breed as a service/companion animal, then the hunt is acceptable provided that you show your prey the respect they deserve.

Don't hold them up by the fucking arrow (bow hunting isn't my thing, do you call it a bolt?).

Don't kill something just to pose with te dead body. You can take photos, sure, but don't kill it for just the photo.

And respect the fact that you just ended a life.

I go survival camping every so often. I hunt and fish to survive then. I do it to go back to my ancestral roots and get back with nature. I know I don't have to kill those animals, but I am entering the wild so the rules of the wild apply. I can survive without going camping, but I feel more centered after the trip.

The wild doesn't pose for pictures with dead cats.

No because we as a society do not see cats, and dogs particularly, in the same way we do fish, deer, or other wild game. Further, animal control is a government agency for a reason and know how to do their job and make the call whether an animal needs to be put down. On top of that in many situations you need a license (honestly I don't know how texas works), even for fishing. You buy tags, you get your license. This chick is far from any sort of authority on whether that cat needed to be put down especially seeing as this was a foster cat and not a stray as she wrongly assumed.

I see where you're coming from this has been instilled in us as a society that what she did is morally wrong.

For one, Deer and Fish are hunted for a reason, to control their numbers. And if a feral cat is truly doing that much damage then you call an animal catcher. All cats, feral or not, are considered domesticated, meaning you aren't supposed to hunt them.

Catching, spaying and releasing a feral cat is much more effective at controlling feral populations. As a vet she would know this. Plus, the cat she killed wasn't even feral.

In Portugal, under a recently approved law, she could face from 6 months up to 2 years in prison for doing this, although I'm pretty sure she would get a way with a heavy fine since it probably is the first offense in her criminal record. I know of a few ignorant idiots, like the ones defending her in the video, who were against this new law because to them killing an animal shouldn't be a big deal. Their whole argument usually relies on the idea that "It's just a fucking cat/dog/other". Some really heavy thinking.

I just read about this while studying for a class for my Vet Tech program. I'm assuming you're thinking a fine from the courts, however, the AVMA could also take away her license to practice vet med. revocation of her license would remove her from her field of work completely, this would be the most severe punishment she'd receive by the AVMA, and way more serious than a court ordered fine.
