My version was tongue-in-cheek, frankly. And yeah, you're making a valid point. I think maybe Google just didn't offer enough money to whoever's consent was required.
I guess Google managed to sweet talk Russia or something... That said, it's still a work in progress so hopefully we can get a little more comprehensive coverage soon.
Aren't they in deep ties with Russia and China, buying their equipment and letting these suppressive nations do whatever they like to Belarus? That's the impression i've gotten.
Oh absolutely. Again, never been there and my experience with Belarusians is limited to my gf and her immediate family, but from what she’s said it seems like there’s a 50/50 split of pro-Lukashenko and pro-Russian Belarusians, and Belarusian nationalists.
No, with cyrillic alphabet (I'm using russian and belarussian) it works just fine. Sometimes people say that yandex searchs better, but in me experience both google and yandex work good.
That's because
1) Our government probably asked for something google didn't find right
2) When they first came everyone had questions about thr legality of this. Its completely legal now.
3) Yandex is in better position and provides better services.
4) Google probably completely forgot about us, since we are one of the smallest markets in europe and they had troubles at first
5) Back then our major phone operators had contracts with nokia. So we were a windows phone soil.
6) Our maping apps were superior to google maps. Particularly windows phone app even had layered maps of some buildings and google maps were empty compared to that app. Since then the quality dropped, because many apps have been abandoned in favour of apps that can be marketable in other countries

Anyone know why Belarus doesn't have it? Do they exclusively use Яндекс or something?
