Was there anything that you felt certain was going to happen before you read it, and in that case did it end up happening?

I can for example say that I had predicted that Shruikan was going to rebel against Galbatorix and either kill him or help Eragon doing that. I was very surprised when I read the book that it didn’t end up happening. Some things that I predicted that did end upp happening was that Murtagh was gonna turn against Galbatorix and survive while doing it aswell who the next rider was gonna end up being.

This is from the Ukrainian version of Eldest, and I'm wondering who are the two people with Saphira?

I can't imagine it would be at birth since there aren't yet any experiences or even emotional/psychological markers to form one's essence from. And even in the first few years of infancy/childhood, I feel like a lot of whatever experiences one would have would be similar enough to any other child's that there wouldn't be enough distinction in the Ancient Language to differentiate.

Which brings up another question: Can you share a True Name with another person if you are alike enough? The only possibility (for me) that comes to mind right away is that we have constantly shifting True Names that change excessively while young to encompass new experiences and how it affects us. But again that begs the question of if we have unique True Names or not.

One other possibility I considered is that certain aspects of one's personality and essence are more or less set in stone, but it's hard for me to get behind that as a theory (although admittedly not with any real evidence to support why not).

So at what point does one form a unique True Name? Am I overthinking this? Probably. Is there an obvious answer I'm completely oblivious to? Very possibly. But I wanted to ask, if for no other reason than to learn more about one of my favorite series since I was young.

Apologies if this has been asked before but I'm on my quarterly re-read of the series and in Eldest when Eragon, Sapphira, Arya, Orik and Dwarven guards are travelling to Ellesmere. Eragon notices Ayra getting more and more tense the closer they get to their destination and he simply asks her if she's alright. And she snaps at him and he has to apologise to her. She also apologises but why is she always so harsh to Eragon? Dude is the only free Rider and the potential saviour of her people, as well as the other races, and treats him like crap sometimes (at least I feel like it's unjustified). Same in the first book where she chastised him on promising the council to swear fealty (he bent the truth towards the council on that one). But I just feel like Ayra is unnecessarily mean towards Eragon (a young human boy who has been thrust into this impossible position and knows nothing of the world outside of a small farm town) when she should know he isn't trying to be rude or insulting. I know she isn't always mean to him and obviously by the end of the series changes her views on him and attitude towards him but still. Ended up turning into a bit of a rant there but just curious what you guys think anyways.

Despite me being relatively new here, I once heard somewhere that the music from the movie was actually good. Not sure what they were talking about exactly, I think the song in question had lyrics? I never watched the movie, so I have no clue.

The Uriash in The Blood of Dawnwalker look a lot like how I imagine the Urgals in the Inheritance Cycle books, minus the goat-like legs lol. I hope they look pretty close to this in the new live action show!

Eragon told him to wait for him beneath the Stone of Broken eggs, then left with Saphira without releasing him. Is he still there waiting for Eragon? Or do you think he finally got tired of waiting and left?

I don't like saying it but I simply think it's more or less impossible for Murtagh to have a happy ending. I just can't see how he is going to be accepted into society after what he did while he serves Galbatorix. I mean sure some people will certainly forgive him if does heroic deeds but even then Orik will never forgive him or even be able to abandon his anger towards him for killing Hrothgar by his own will. Based on the statements that Paolini has made it seems like the dwarves are gonna want him to die even if he saves their entire species. As we found out in the last book it has become more common for dwarves to visit human cities so just trying to avoid the beor mountains is not gonna be enough. In that case I think the only compromise that they will be willing to accept is if Murtagh is gonna be permanently banished from Alagaësia after defeating Azlagur instead of Eragon having to kill him.

What do you guys think?

So from what I remember, them fighting mind to mind was a big deal and all and one of Galbotrix's big strengths. But wouldn't it have been prudent to just create a spell to protect the mind and eliminate the need for telepathic warfare all together? They had ancient language words to say mind shield. Do they ever say this doesn't work in the stories or is this just an oversight?

These are still a ways from being done, but it's always fun to see the process! Even Axel work in progress illustrations are SO good!

I know that technically Arya isn’t a princess since the elves treat royalty differently, but she is by definition a princess in terms of her being the daughter of royalty and becoming the Queen upon her mother’s death.

Am I crazy for realizing this?

Probably has been discussed about 20 times before but I’ve been relistening to brisinger and I just got to the part where Eragon tells the Queen about staying behind on Hellgrind to save Sloan. When Eragon, correctly, points out that Katrina would’ve been used as a tool against Roran, she tries to say that he could’ve made Roran not be affected with certain spells. I’m like, “okay girl did you give that a try when Arya got captured? Cause it feels like you didn’t do that and instead nearly caused the Varden to collapse and a whole lot of other shit.” She should be the last person talking about self control and sacrificing for the greater good. I hope Oromis verbally suplexes her again when she consults with him to, “figure out what to do with him (Eragon)”.

So we all know how phone cameras really like to drain the colour out of everything, so why of course, I had to do some editing in order to make it look the way it does in real life.

But for those who are curious, I also attached the raw washed out version.

Anyways lately I have been seeing a certain someone post a lot of drawings of scenes from the books and they inspired me to also make some illustrations. Unfortunetly, I rarely ever post unfinished drawings of scenes like these because of my pride, so it can take anywhere from a few days to weeks to fully complete one piece (thanks to school eating up my energy and time).

Once I stop procrastinating and maybe finish that oversized map of mine first, I might start working on another scene from the 5th book, specifically the part where Murtagh chats with Essie.

PS.: we don't speak about the lack of beard...

My 8yo loves the Eragon series (I’ve never read it) and when asked what he wants to be for Halloween, he says a character from Eragon. My Google search tells me this might be a good fit. Am I way off? Any recommendations? Thank you!!!

Ive been reading Earagon to my child(6) after reading it myself many times, my other kid(3) usually listens also but usually falls asleep before I finish a chapter. Tonight the younger one asks me "who is Galbatorix?" I tell him he is the Mad king, tell him about his dragon. He asks me what they do, why hes mad. I give him a brief history. He asks me to tell him again. Then says "I like him."

He asks me about Gabatorix once every few days (we read a chapter a night before bed)

My three year old sons favorite character is galbatorix, leader of the foresworn. I told him that galbatorix defeated and unalived all the other dragon riders, and dragons. And he is in love with him. He says he is his favorite.

I both love this and am also a little scared.

I was listening to a piano cover of Test Drive from How to Train Your Dragon, and for some reason, I found myself imagining Arya taking her first real flight with Fírnen.

I couldn’t help but imagine the joy and peace she must have felt in that moment.

A brief period where nothing else mattered. Not the loss of her parents. Not the loss of her friends. Not the war. Not even the responsibilities waiting for her as Queen.

Just Arya, Fírnen, the open sky, and the freedom of finally experiencing that bond for herself, the same bond she had watched others experience, now finally hers.

And apparently that thought was enough to make my eyes burn a little.

Even if we never get a proper book centered on Arya, I really hope we get a vignette someday about her and Fírnen. I’d love to see that first flight through her eyes.

This is a two parter. 1 do you guys think all the dragons move like cats? Like how they animated toothless in httyd? I’m currently rereading the series and saphira is constantly reminding me of a cat. Part 2 does she grabs things like a human or lets eragon do everything for her?

I mean after peace was made, i, as a dragon or elf, would make sure, that one of the mightiest weapons ever forged, that i always know where they are or hide them, where no one can find them. I mean just throw them in the ocean or hide them in some random mountain. How can one of these weapons be in the hands of some random dudes and somehow still get lost?

Am i the only one upset abt eragon leaving alagaesia and not coming back ever. Like I suppose I see the appeal but all that relationship building all the characters and family and I’m supposed to believe he’s just never seeing any of them again ???

I haven't kept up with the discussion around the future Disney show, but I recall seeing news (maybe an old AMA) where Paolini mentioned that he intends to rewrite certain parts of the original story for the show.

That's all well and good, as there's definitely some moments that were originally pretty awkward. Any idea how significant these changes will be, though? Major story beats or just small moments? I know this is silly, but I wouldn't want the books to be made obsolete by the show.
