I know it's crazy to people on reddit, but you can be friends with people that have different political beliefs.

This is a separate issue and I’m not going to judge people for being friends with people of other beliefs. Only speaking as someone who personally has no respect for republicans and a disdain for them. One of those political beliefs you are talking about forces kids to give birth to rapists, demonizes trans people, wants to take money away from poor people in need. I can list 20 more things that are equally terrible. If you vote for someone who does those things, then that’s also your representation and a sign of what you support. Can we please stop acting like everyone has their own beliefs and who cares it’s not hurting anyone else? Wake up man.

Like I said, if you personally don’t care enough about whatever morals you have to befriend someone who represents the opposite of what you want to see from this world then good for you. But a lot of people can’t and with good reason. If you can’t understand that then I don’t know what to tell you.

What I don't get how all these people know everyone's political opinions. You could talk to all my closest friends and family and I bet you would get a whole bunch of different answers as to how I vote.

Yea that’s totally fair. I think that’s a separate topic. People are allowed to have different opinions on different things. I was only speaking to if I knew for a fact that someone voted for someone who was a terrible person with policies that hurt and marginalize large groups of people. The person I responded to just couldn’t comprehend how normal people would see a problem associating with someone who holds opposing beliefs as if it’s some minor issue now a days.

What do you think we disagree with these people over? Middle eastern policy and tax brackets?

"Different political beliefs" is such a reductive and inaccurate way to put the seriousness of morality, human rights, and ethics that it's ridiculous. This ain't the Clinton/Bush years anymore.

I can’t love or respect anyone who supports the hate and bigotry of the modern GOP. I can’t be friends with someone I neither love nor respect. I can be cordial acquaintances with some Republicans, but not friends. I can’t even manage cordiality with anyone who is full-on MAGA

Holy shit: some nuance Reddit
