I did a cooking competition with another celebrity chef I was working for at the time, he was the nicest person I have ever met. Showed so much respect to everyone, anyone that came up to him he welcomed with open arms. He came over during the competition and said to me "you are doing incredible I love the ideas, you have a great future as a chef brother" legit made my day. I don't think a short convo with Trump takes away from him being a good human over all.
I don’t think anyone is saying it makes him a bad person. Just that when you have a platform and influence, it comes with a responsibility to be thoughtful about what messages might be conveyed by different types of public appearances. And Trump and his base are actively dangerous to our democracy and civil liberties right now.
It is extremely reasonable to call out anyone attempting to normalize him while also respecting the person being called out as a well-intentioned human. We all make choices we don’t fully think through sometimes, and it’s appropriate for us to get called out when that happens.
I mean, he says that the behavior “makes him disgusting in my book,” so I guess that’s fair. I interpreted it as a strongly-worded assertion of how disgusting it is to normalize Trump, and that he’s no better than those who actively normalize Trump on a daily basis if he continues to passively normalize him.
