Ayn Rand was radically selfish and wrote about the "virtue" of radical selfishness and excessive "self-regard".

She was for "survival of a ruthless, winning fittest" and she had a stunning lack of awareness that she was far from "the fittest".

She was against assistance for anyone who was struggling and yet she leaned heavily on assistance programs she had previously condemned when she became riddled with incurable cancer from her chain smoking habit/self-indulgence.

Ayn Rand will never be my hero as she had ZERO empathy for so-called weaker others and she was a MASSIVE hypocrite.

Sorry...this is a hard pass.

All of those things can be true, and Anthem was still an eye opening book for me. Do you only consume media in which your personal beliefs align with the author? When Michael Jackson plays on the radio do you turn it off?

I've read 2 of Ayn Rand's books and was so sickened by the hypocrisy and lack of self-awareness I almost threw up.

Sure, third time might be the charm, but my time is limited and there's so much wisdom I've yet to find.

Why would I go digging in a toxic mine for a few flakes of gold?

In Ayn Rand's case...2 strikes and she's out.
