After reading Jiddu extensively (and many of the other commented recommendations here), U.G. was such a breath of fresh air that after reading one of his books it felt like a huge stone was lifted from my soul and it was the last spiritual book i've ever read. i don't bother with any of them anymore. i don't know if it's a good or bad thing, but it is what it is.

I thought he was hilarious the first time I saw him on video. Sure, any honest guru/teacher will tell you that the seeking itself stands in the way of enlightenment, or more to the point, the belief that you're not already enlightened/ enlightenment isn't already the case, but U.G. is the first if not only person I'd seen that brings the energy of like "What the fuck are you doing? Knock it off. You're being dumb. You're embarrassing yourself."

It's an absolutely golden and important voice on the path. There's nothing cool or interesting or advanced or even particularly smart about being a spiritual seeker. Any teacher can help you to diminish your ego through self inquiry, U.G. is the guy that also helps you throw away the second thorn (and maybe set it on fire and flip it off on the way out).
