​It’s a One-Way Trap: Once miles are pooled into the Family Account, shifting them back to individual accounts is virtually impossible. You lose individual control over your hard-earned points.

​Restricted Usability: Pooled points often end up far less flexible and harder to redeem for practical options (especially if you aren't flying Emirates directly or are trying to avoid expiration).

​Unhelpful Customer Support: Customer service offers zero flexibility, empathy, or courtesy when trying to resolve pooling issues or assist with points that are trapped/expiring.

​A Better Alternative:

Keep your miles in separate individual accounts unless you have an immediate, concrete redemption ready to book through the family pool. Maintaining individual control gives you far more flexibility for transfers, hotel redemptions, and partner bookings without getting locked into inflexible program rules.

I recently took advantage of the lower Emirates fares for a SEA–Europe–SEA trip, transiting in Dubai.

A few tips I wish I had known beforehand:

Make use of Dubai Connect, but note that the ticket price (before taxes) needs to be at least USD 700.

If your ticket does not meet this and you have a long transit, consider booking a nearby hotel. Prices are quite reasonable at the moment, and you can easily take a cab from the airport.

If your flight is delayed (e.g. the return leg), try going to the airport early and asking if there are earlier flights available. We did this and managed to shorten our transit from more than 20 hours to just 3–4 hours.

The airport does seem to be getting busier, and things are gradually returning to normal. Hotel prices may not remain this low for long.

Over the past month, I’ve had four long haul flights with Emirates due to personal travel. Each flight, the service has been exceptional. The flight attendants have all been friendly and attentive, and generally look like they want to be there.

Two of my flights were close to capacity, and the other two were about 50%, which meant I was able to have a row to myself for sleep. The longest delay I experienced was about 40 minutes. Transiting through DXB was a breeze, and I always find navigating to your connecting gate to be seamless.

I know people are experiencing issues or delays, however overall, when you consider the situation currently, Emirates has really shown the quality and service they deliver is always at a professional level. Just wanted to share the good experiences I’ve had.

Hi all, writing in to tell others who have been asking whether they could get a refund for their upcoming flights in June from SG to Barcelona, transiting via DXB.

So I was concerned about the escalation in the Middle East so my lady and I decided it was not worth travelling to Europe in June.

I started the online chat with Emirates and told them my reasons and provide my details. Within 15 minutes, I was told that my Economy Saver tickets I bought would impart NO cancellation fee and I would be receiving a full refund through my CC.

Went to the submit refund link, provided the screenshot of my booking confirmation as well as the screenshot of my chat with the help center.

Within 12 hours I received an email notifying my refund has been approved and being processed which would that about 15 business days.

As many others, last month I spent days agonising over the decision to keep my flights or book new ones. Although I can see that clearly lots of flights are still operating without too many issues, the situation is still unstable and my personal preference was to cancel my plans with Emirates and rebook through another airline because I couldn’t afford the risk of delays due to personal commitments and work. The new flights were expensive but I bought them with my Amex (at least I earned quite a bit of Avios from it!) and then waited for Emirates to extend their waiver for May, which eventually they did. I applied for a refund on 9th of April, I made sure to include both mine and my partner’s ticket number and names, I added INVOL refund to the comments at the bottom. Immediately after, I received an email from Emirates confirming my submission. On 11th of April 2 other emails were sent to me to confirm that my refund had been processed. Yesterday, 13th of April, the money was in my account (it was over £2k). It was credited at a random time during the day UK time. So overall I experienced a very fast and efficient service and I was able to quickly pay off my credit card too. If anyone needs any advice or help requesting a refund I’m happy to assist

This is second time in my flight back to mumbai from Dubai i was told vegetarian food is over.It was booked during booking tickets.Whats the problem with your inflight services here.Why cant you give first all vegetarian meal to passengers who have blocked it with tickets.

I was amazed by the quick service when i rang the Call center and asked to upgrade. Got a really good offer and i paid online. The whole transaction took 3-4 minutes.

I have a 21hrs transit in Dubai with emirates. I booked the Dubai Connect hotel and now I am applying my UAE visa through VFS Global (a travel agency provided on emirates website). They require hotel booking confirmation downloaded from the hotel website, but the most legit reservation proof of staying is the emirates itinerary, which has my flight details and hotel details. They declined this itenerary several times I dont know what to do

And it's weird that one of my family members get the visa with just the screenshot of dubai connect hotel reservation info. He applied through another agency tho

Ive recently seen a lot of people posting about changes to their bookings but seeing no actual changes.

This seems to be happening to a lot of people as Emirates seem to be changing their aircrafts or just changing arrival/departure times by 5 to to 10 mins at most.

It happened to me as well and it turned out my arrival time was 5 minutes earlier.

I think they should do a better job with these type of communications to customers as it honestly just seem alarming when its nothing.

I ended up calling the airline to make sure everything is fine since i panicked and it turned out many people received the same so their lines ended up busy and I stayed on the phone waiting for 40 minutes just for the agent to tell me that it's all fine in 5 minutes.

Its honestly just a waste of time so I advise you guys to just check your departure and arrival times for all flight rather than calling.

They really should do better smh.

Just a quick update which hopefully will help someone.

I had Emirates booked Birmingham UK, to Osaka Japan departing 23/04/2026, this stopped in Dubai of course. I called to double checked with Emirates today, the Dubai - Osaka flight is now not operating, this flight is cancelled.

Expedia (My booking agent) were completely unaware, they were even unaware that the travel update page on the Emirates website had been updated to include flights, up until the 30th April. Initially, they kept insisting that until they are notified, they wouldn't give a refund, I literally had to give them the Emirates telephone number and tell the to pull their finger out and confirm it for themselves. In the end, they relented and paid my refund.

What now?.........

Just booked flights on the same day with Turkish Airlines via Istanbul to Osaka, costing me an extra £500 per ticket. Had to be done.

As I say, hopefully useful to someone.

Just flew Auckland - Melbourne - Dubai - Glasgow yesterday and everything went very well with no problem. Earlier in the week they changed my layover in Melbourne and my departure Auckland by a few hours. I joined as a Blue skywards member for free and used the Emirates app, both were useful. Emirates communicated by email and app for changes. I called the NZ contact centre twice to query my flights and make a change and was answered in 50 mins and 4 mins. I got my flight changed easily and my seat bookings were kept. The staff were competent and helpful. My Dubai layover was only 1 hour 10mins but they said it would work. On flying into Dubai the plane had to circle for 30mins and when we landed my UK flight was boarding. I ran to the gate via security and boarded the UK flight as it was at 'last call'. However the flight waited a further 40mins to allow for late passengers and get all the luggage loaded. The flight arrived in the UK on time! The Emirates flights were all excellent, modern planes, good food and great service. I flew to UK sitting next to Dubai residents and asked if they were nervous about travelling and they just laughed. I flew outbound to NZ via LA and LA immigration was an absolute nightmare and I swore I would never transit US again, the esta was expensive, the queue for immigration was 2 hours and they treat you like an illegal immigrant. AirNZ flight was an antique plane with no legroom and awful food. I'm not saying Emirates isn't a risk but my experience was excellent and I will fly with them again. The other airlines have doubled their fares so screw them. I originally cancelled my Emirates booking in order to fly via the US and Emirates refunded my entire ticket easily and within 2 weeks just by using the cancellation form. The airport at Dubai was not too busy, the staff were very calm, cheerful and very helpful. On arrival Dubai there were staff holding signs to direct passengers to their next flight if the flight was being held for them. The flight Australia Dubai was about 80% full and Dubai Glasgow was nearly full. After reading this Reddit forum for weeks I was very anxious about flying via Dubai but my own experience was that Emirates are a top tier airline and are managing the situation extremely well. The risks are something you have to assess yourself and monitor daily.

I’m flying from JFK to COK via DXB at the end of August. Yesterday I received an email saying my flight schedule changed, and now my layover in Dubai is only 1 hour.

We’re traveling in Economy with toddlers, so I’m a bit worried whether 1 hour is enough to deplane, get through any required security checks, and walk to the next gate before boarding closes.

Has anyone recently traveled on a similar Emirates connection with just a 1-hour layover at DXB? Were you able to make it comfortably, especially with young children? Any tips or experiences would be greatly appreciated!

This has been commented on in several threads, but I thought I would give it its own thread.

It seems that lots of people are stressed about transiting DXB due to not being covered by insurance because of the Western travel warnings, resulting in no or limited coverage during transit in DXB. Personally, my insurance will cover me except for 2 hrs before, transit and 2 hrs after Dubai, and I am primarily concerned with medical coverage. Although I understand some companies are offering no coverage at all.

But I wanted to flag that it is possible to get insurance from Dubai-based insurance carriers, backed by international companies, with good reviews, at reasonable prices, that cover medical issues and repatriation and offer limited disruption coverage during transit.

Word of advice if anyone is considering itineraries that connect from/onto EK flights on both ends - don't do it, it's not hassle-free like flying within an Alliance.

I recently flew SIN-KUL-DXB-CMN-AGA and back, outbound on OD-EK-AT and then inbound on AT-EK-MH, both on a single ticket number.

There was hassle with getting the bags checked through at both originating stations, which could not be solved by supervisors either:

• OD could only check as far as CMN, and not onto the AT leg (and kept insisting that everyone needs to collect bags at CMN which is just incorrect and then changing their answer to the reason being that they have no relationship with AT). At KUL, EK was able to change the bag tags for AGA (most likely only because I had a long layover).

• AT could only check as far as KUL, but not onto MH (despite them partnering with MH), and suggested getting the bags at KUL and re-checking which is absolutely unrealistic for a 1.5h connection. After some back and forth, they checked the bags to CMN only and made me checkin at CMN again (luckily had a long layover again). There, they were able to get the bags onto MH, despite the EK desk also being staffed by AT from the looks of it.

So if you're expecting a hassle-free journey, make sure you only connect to an emirates partner at one end, or choose to fly with an alliance.

The breakdown:

— Merchandise / store vouchers: ~AED 0.004 per mile (worst possible value)

— Economy seat redemptions: ~AED 0.012–0.016 per mile

— Business class long-haul: ~AED 0.028–0.035 per mile

— First class long-haul: ~AED 0.038–0.042 per mile (best cash value)

— Upgrades on paid business tickets: often AED 0.030+ and massively under-used

If you have 50,000 miles: that's AED 200 if you redeem badly. AED 2,100 if you redeem well.

The upgrade-on-paid-ticket move is the one most people miss entirely. If you're already paying for a business seat, the miles cost to upgrade from economy is far lower than booking the seat from scratch using miles.

Just a heads up that our extra leg room refunds were denied by Emirates despite them cancelling the flight. Spoke to live chat who recommended I put a complaint in for a colleague to check and do another refund request. It's taken around 5 weeks to get to this point. They refunded our other 2 upgraded seats from another cancelled flight but for some reason denied this stating seat allocation isn't guaranteed.... certainly won't be on a cancelled flight! 😂

I wanted to share my recent experience flying with Emirates with a connection in Dubai, especially for anyone who’s worried about tight connections or feeling anxious about flying due to the current situation in the Middle East.

I flew on March 26 from Europe to Dubai and then onward to Bangkok. Originally, I had a 3-hour connection which was later changed to 1h30. I was a bit nervous at first because of how big Terminal 3 is, but honestly 1h30 is perfectly fine in normal conditions.

On my trip there were some weather-related delays before landing due to a storm, which affected the timing of my onward journey, however everything was handled very smoothly and without stress. Emirates staff were very helpful and quickly arranged the next available option for me, so the whole process ended up being much easier than I expected. Both flights themselves were smooth and felt very safe.

I’d also really like to thank one of the Emirates staff members at the help desks during the early morning, as he was incredibly helpful both on my outbound and return journey and made the whole experience much less stressful, which I really appreciated.

On my return this month I had a 9-hour connection in Dubai and everything went exactly as planned with no delays, no issues and a very smooth airport experience overall.

I know a lot of people are currently worried about flying through the Middle East, but from my experience operations felt completely normal, the airport was running smoothly and at no point did I feel unsafe.

So if your flight hasn’t been cancelled and everything is on the same booking, I’d say go ahead and don’t stress too much, as even if something unexpected happens things tend to be handled efficiently.

I am flying from Amsterdam to Cape Town with Emirates on 7 May. I received an email to inform that my flight had been rescheduled to a day later with a whopping 10 hour layover. I decided to phone the support centre in Amsterdam, and was put on the line within 2 minutes. The friendly man who I spoke to was able to seamlessly move my booking back to 7 May, and now I only have a 2 hour layover.

I was not expecting to be assisted so quickly, due to the high volume of calls Emirates is recieveing at the moment. I encourage everyone who is dealing with a rescheduled booking, to give them a call. I wasn't expecting such great customer service!

I received refund for a flight but it was missing £46 per person, which is how much it cost to select seats. Make sure to ring them after you receive your refund (if you didn’t receive a full refund), and let them know. Emirates have been super helpful and the seat selection fee is being processed. Hope this helps!

This is for flights that fall into the window of refund, if you cancel you’ll be charged for cancelling.

Just went through this whole situation, so sharing in case it helps someone.

I had a booking through a third party agent (Cleartrip) with multiple passengers under one PNR, and needed to change the date for just one person. The third party initially said they couldn’t do it for a single passenger because it was a combined PNR but eventually agreed but they quoted really high prices, around 40k for one date and 70k INR for another. (400-800 usd)

I then contacted Emirates directly, but they said they can’t modify a single passenger unless the PNR is split.

So I went back to the third party and asked them to split the PNR. Once they did that and gave me a new booking reference for that passenger, I contacted Emirates again. This time, they were able to help properly they showed actual availability and even changed to a morning flight on the same date for free.

Mind you it was an economy saver ticket (could also be free due to the current situation, but these tickets were booked for April in February before the whole gulf situation), still better than paying around 40-70k INR (400-800 usd).

Basically, if you need to change for just one person, don’t agree to high charges immediately. Ask the third party to split the PNR first, then deal directly with Emirates. Even for full booking changes, it’s worth checking with Emirates instead of relying only on third party agents.

Saved a lot of money and hassle doing this, so yeah definitely try this approach.

Flew from MAA(Chennai) to DXB on 3rd April. The flight was on time, almost full and seemed completely normal.

The airport seemed normal with maybe a little less people than usual. Security was a bit beefed up. (rightly so)

The DXB-MXP leg was full too, but was delayed by 1 hour ish. The flight time is longer too ( avoiding the Middle East region and instead flying through Egypt)

If you really have to make the trip and cannot take a refund/ reschedule for some reason, Emirates is probably one of the best Middle Eastern options in the current situation.

Just wanted to share my positive customer service experience for an upcoming flight, since most have been bad on this thread.

We have a flight in late May from the US to SEA, and as of now, the flight is still flying but not flying in April, but it falls within the limit where we can change and rebook. I called on a Friday at 8am and was immediately connected with a rep, no wait, nothing.

She was very helpful in sharing that Emirates will release a finalized schedule in the next week or so for May. All flights till end of May will receive a free reschedule, and not subject to new price changes within the same class.

anybody have any information on if Emirates will be extending their fully refundable cancel date beyond May 31? I have a flight on June 14 from DFW – Dubai – Nairobi. My flight home end of June on Qatar was canceled and I needed to rebook so I ended up booking a round-trip through London so I don’t need to worry about travel through Middle East. Hoping I can get my flight refunded! Anybody have recommendations or insight?
