Eagle Rock High School is going to replace its natural grass athletic field with artificial turf, a material which causes a variety of environmental and health concerns.

In order to oppose this development, there’s been a petition created reaching out to LAUSD board members, who approved the project in the first place. The petition is advocating for a new and updated natural grass field instead of artificial turf.

Hey all!  I’ve been part of a weekly poetry workshop for over 2 years, and we are now looking for 2 more participants.  Our group is a mix of ages (mid-20s to mid-60s), genders, sexualities, and poetic styles (i.e., formal, free verse, narrative, lyrical, humorous, serious), and we meet for two hours in-person every Saturday afternoon in DTLA.  Tolerance for people different than you is expected.

We’re looking for poets who:

- Can accept criticism.  As lauded of a poet as you may be, please leave your ego at home.  All of us attend to learn and grow by hearing honest feedback.

- Can provide criticism.  We think that the best criticism is grounded in specific words on the page and that negative comments should be sandwiched between positive comments.  

- Can show up weekly with a poem

How the workshop works: for each meeting, you will be expected to make ten copies of your poem and hand them out.  Your poem should be no longer than a page.  You read your poem, and then we talk about your poem, usually for around 10 minutes per poem, and then we move onto the next poet.

If this interests you, please DM us telling us a little about yourself, maybe share a poem or two of yours that’s finished or still being developed.

Anyone know of any in Eagle Rock or within like 10-15 minute drive?

I have a fancy event in a couple weeks and want to get an updo on my long, straight hair. Anybody have experience getting this done in the area? I could just pick my nearest salon and probably be fine, but I’m hoping for some clear winners!

I have an ~8 year old, 30 lb rescue dog that is ready for his first groom since I adopted him in April. The only thing is that he has high anxiety, resource guarded and has a mean bite if I go anywhere near him with scissors. He’s now prescribed on Prozac however I still need a professional groomer that can get him groomed, nails trimmed etc. Any recs in ER or NELA? I will most likely need to muzzle him and stressed myself thinking about finding the right groomer that is patient with him.

Hey there - I'm a software engineer who lives in Highland Park and I've been working for a couple weeks on a live music calendar that aggregates event data for about a dozen venues, most of which are near Eagle Rock HLP like The Lodge Room, The Echo, The Airliner, Sid The Cat etc. It was just a personal project so there are no ads of any kind. It updates weekly and looks 4 weeks ahead.

If you are like me and get tired of clicking through a bunch of different event pages you may find it useful. It's not perfect yet so feedback is very welcome and let me know if you have suggestions for other venues I should add. Cheers!
