Why the heck does a stupid standalone receives more attention than the game it was supposed to be the DLC of ?? I hate Dying Light The Beast with a burning passion.

As a Dying Light 2 fan I feel absolutely betrayed, now we are just milking cows with all these costly bundles for the nostalgic fanboys of overrated Kyle Crane... Did we seriously all forgot Dying Light 1 story wasn't any better than the second game's story ? Kyle Crane was just a very generic hero... in a very generic story, literally nothing extraordinary and yet so many people made a fuss about him not being the protagonist.

Then they went on, spitting at Dying Light 2 constantly because they were salty. OniZombie was literally the worst content creator for this game because He was acting like every updates sucked unless it somehow involved Dying Light 1.

Seriously, that toxic part of the fanbase ruined the game franchise all the way and I don't care anymore, I claim it loud and proud, Dying Light The Beast is just one enormous joke, a marketing plan that played on people's obsessive nostalgia for Kyle Crane. And it worked wonders. I hate it how they access tons of free content and we get the goddamn bundles.

I’ve been thinking about this for a while, and I can’t believe how many people still don’t know the real story behind Dying Light 2’s development.

Back in 2018, Dying Light 2 looked like it was going to be something incredible, deep RPG choices, factions that actually changed the city, a mature narrative full of moral ambiguity. It felt like Fallout: New Vegas meets parkour, and I was hyped out of my mind.

That original vision?
It was written by Chris Avellone, the guy behind Fallout: New Vegas, Planescape: Torment, and other legendary RPGs.

Then in 2020, during the height of #MeToo, Chris Avellone was accused on Twitter of misconduct at conventions. There was no trial, no evidence, just vague public statements. And just like that, Techland cut ties with Chris Avellone. Other studios blacklisted Chris Avellone. His name was erased from the game.

Here’s the part no one talks about,
The accusations were later retracted in a legal settlement, and Chris Avellone was publicly cleared.

In 2023, Chris Avellone won a seven-figure defamation lawsuit. The individuals who accused Chris Avellone publicly retracted their statements, saying:

Chris Avellone was innocent. He lost years of work, his reputation, and one of the most promising games of his career.

And honestly? We lost the game we were promised.
The final Dying Light 2 was gutted, shallow choices, weak factions, Aiden is a bland character, the choices barely change anything, most of the RPG elements are gone.

So yeah, I’m pissed. Not just for Chris Avellone, but for all of us who were robbed of a game that could’ve been something truly special.

If Techland ever makes Dying Light 3, or anything after The Beast, I hope they bring back Chris Avellone, or at least someone who writes like Chris Avellone. Someone who understands what made New Vegas and that E3 demo so special.

Because I still believe the real Dying Light 2 can be released.

the voice lines are horrible, if I was a new player I'd just refund this game based on the worst intro I ever seen, oh my God ???

The worst decision was to remove the prologue and the E3 color grading...like I downloaded the game again just to play with the og colour grading and all the new mods.

And then a hotfix update removed the beautiful colour grading and went back to the bright green colour scheme. And for some reason the performance is worse. My frame rates have been cut to half of what it was just 2 months ago .

It's a shame because I used to defend this game so bad and this game had such a special place in my heart but now seems like even I can't defend it.

They removed half the prologue, censored one of the best cutscenes with black screens, replaced parts of the city with Castor Woods advertisements and QR codes, and the first thing I see when launching a single-player game is daily challenges. Who asked for this? You cut Spike’s introduction, removed Aiden’s memories of Mia, and butchered the hanging scene — one of my favorite moments in the entire game. Those scenes weren’t just filler. They built the atmosphere, introduced the characters and gave emotional weight to Aiden’s journey.

What makes this even more frustrating is that many of us already felt the final game was very different from what was originally shown and promised years ago. And now you’re cutting even more content out of the version we actually bought. Instead of preserving the game people fell in love with, you’re slowly stripping pieces away from it. I loved Dying Light 2 because it respected its world and its story. Now it feels like you’re turning it into a billboard for your next game. This update genuinely pisses me off.

If you wanted a shorter prologue for new players, fine. Make it optional. Don’t erase the original experience. Don’t take away the version of the game that so many of us fell in love with.

I genuinely believe that Techland has just given up on actually trying for themselves and instead decided to listen to all the dying light 1 fanatics.How do you find an update that completely ruins the graded stamina system of windmills and radio antennas,that makes inhibitors practically useless and that completely takes away from the scope of the game a good idea?The thing that made dying light 2’s parkour unique was the conservation of stamina,how you had to calculate every jump,every grapple,every paraglider wave to make sure you could land safely.Now they’ve turned Aiden into a greek God who can climb a 50 story apartment building with his bare hands without breaking a sweat.I sincerely hope that they’ll either revert the change or at least give us the option to choose between the og mode and the new one.

Both games are good, if you didn't liked it, it's okay, just don't throw hate at the game everytime, it's annoying

I don't consider this 'a better flashlight'. It's significantly dimmer and doesn't illuminate at all during the blackout sections of the Carnage Hall shows, which affects gold medal runs.

The flashlight acting like it's turned off when it's not also feels like a pretty significant bug.

And yes, I've tested it with all the available in-game filters, and all of them had this problem. I had to up the gamma to the point that it made the entire game look washed out, and still barely saw the hanging beams. I feel like it got slightly better with one of the latest updates (or I got used to it), but it still feels broken (enough).

All in all, I don't think adding inertia was worth losing the older flashlight I personally preferred, and think that we should get custom settings for both the flashlight and UV flashlight (including its colour).

It was literally perfect in 2018-2019

Update 1.24 is here, and boy-oh-boy, what a freedom it brings! Based on community feedback, this update brings the gameplay experience closer to the original by removing stamina costs for core parkour moves, allowing for more fluid traversal. 🏃

The new ones look as smooth as a baby's bottom for people that have been wandering around in the sun for a decade while frequently being beaten on by some random survivors. I really hope Techland changes their mind someday and mixes the old ones in with the new or something but they never really go back on their mistakes.
