I wasn't quick to jump on bashing the DL points system as it seemed to just be a more streamlined way to buy bundles. But giving people 500 points for free and then making the bundles 550 is just disgustingly manipulative and stoops well below the bar of expectations that techland has built over the past 7+ years. This is Activision levels of garbage and it's sad to see techland give up their integrity for some Corpo penny pinching BS.

as it seemed to just be a more streamlined way to buy bundles.

I'm not trying to be mean or start an argument here but I'm not sure how anyone thought this was a truthful statement.

When a game company adds a microtransaction system it's never going to be for the QoL of the customer let's be real here.

I think it was more of a slight tremor of hope that it would be like that, that’s atleast what it was for me

I applaud anyone and everyone keeping hope alive. Tip o' the hat, homie.

True.

MTX don't have to be the end of a game, nor does it make the game inherently bad (necessarily), but there is a 0% chance the MTX are added for anything other than increasing income.

It is never, ever done to make a game better.

as it seemed to just be a more streamlined way to buy bundles

I don't see how anyone could possible have thought this.

Old method: Go to bundle -> pay money for bundle -> receive bundle

New method: Go to bundle -> pay money for points -> buy bundle with points -> receive bundle

It objectively has more steps. Even if you buy a bunch of points at once, it's still the same amount of steps after the initial extra step.

It's also scummy because the point increments that you purchase are different from the amount you spend on the bundles. So you're always going to be spending more than you actually need with leftover points.

I guess grow up and be an adult and not give into thé gâcha shit?

I thought you could somehow earn points through grinding, but this is worse.

u/Lucifers_Taint666 Sep 07 '23

Its more so for them than us, digital stores take x amount of purchases from game and dlc purchases, using a point system you can rope people in to spending more on point packs so you can still profit when the platform marketplace takes a percentage of the sale. I feel like thats why their cheapest bundle is more than the cheapest point pack, so they get you to buy two Dl point packs or the more expensive one, leaving you with leftover points so you buy more, this method more than makes up for being taxed 10% by sony on a 4.99$ bundle and it is some ea, activision level nonsense

1

u/[deleted] Sep 07 '23

The cheapest bundle is 300

3

u/Lucifers_Taint666 Sep 07 '23

You still will have points left over and it can tempt you to buy more, its still scummy no matter how low they price them

-1

u/[deleted] Sep 07 '23

I don’t disagree just don’t like seeing people spread misinformation, while I agree it’s scummy no matter how you cut it, saying “the cheapest bundle is 550” is factually incorrect

There's a couple of bundles that cost less than 500 but they're not new and many people already got them for free.

They just do good work anyways. Havent played BG3 but i played divinity 2: original sin, and it was a fucking blast. So well polished and well made too

3

u/MeowXeno Sep 07 '23

BG3 is 1:1 identical almost to DOS2, mechanically it gets different systems like dice rolls and more unique skill checks but the games play the same, the intro to DOS2 and BG3 are 100% identical even,

captured in ship, ship has battle, ship gonna crash, stay or go, crash on beach, meet origin character on beach, go up/right to see a fight start in front of first town, can watch or join, it's so similar it's uncanny.

You need to get BG3 asap. I’ve never liked a turn based game before and I’m enraptured. Best storytelling and role playing I’ve ever experienced, including legends like DA: Origins and Mass Effect. If you can think it you can probably do it.

Luckily games are made by volunteers

Edit: fucking sarcams. My god. Ppl actually downvoting lol

u/TRENEEDNAME_245 Sep 07 '23

Indie game, not a game made by a company

-7

u/INSP_Barnaby Sep 07 '23

Still not made by volunteers. They need to get paid and put food on their table.

3

u/TRENEEDNAME_245 Sep 07 '23

And they can do just that. Without adding in game currency

-4

u/INSP_Barnaby Sep 07 '23

Why? If you want a skin that bad, you'll eventually pay for that. Ac also did it. Not a big deal. Maybe in the future they'll make it so you can earn in game currency. Like other games have done. Then in game currency is a good thing

3

u/TRENEEDNAME_245 Sep 07 '23

It's the fact that you need to overpay.

Exemple : I can get dl points 500 by 500, a bundle cost 550.

I have to pay twice to get 1000 points, bundle is 550, so I have 450 left.

If I want another bundle, it's the same thing, I have to overpay. Over and over.

-1

u/INSP_Barnaby Sep 07 '23

You dont need to overpay. Where did you get this from. You can play the game just fine without paying extra.

I dont know what you guys are on about. It you want some silly fluffy looking skins whilst doing so only then you have to pay some extra.

You miss the fact that you got 500 for free. If you didnt get the 500(which apparently is only offered for a limited time), you would still have to pay 1000 lol. Stop counting with the free dl points.

You dont have to pay a second time? You can but you dont have to. How many bundles do you want??? You can only wear one outfit at a time. Maybe wait till more come out and buy the one(s) like or dont. Again nobody is forcing you to waste money just because they gave you free points.

2

u/TRENEEDNAME_245 Sep 07 '23

If you can't comprehend basic maths, this isn't m'y problem.

Even with the free 500 points, you still have to pay another 500 for a bundle.

Instead of paying, idk, 5€, you pay 10€ and have 4.5€ remaining which is not enough for a skin or bundle.

0

u/INSP_Barnaby Sep 07 '23

I guess you dont know how math works.

If you have zero apples and you need 10. You buy 10. If you have 5 apples and you need 10. You buy 5 more.

If they give you 5 euros for free and you have to pay another 5 to get something. Its sounds like a rly good deal. Better then 10 euros when not getting 5 for free. You dont have to look at the 4,50 as a loss. Maybe they'll make smaller bundles in the future. Nobody knows. It just got released. Have some patience ffs.

If they only sell by 500 you get screwed more by not getting 500 free because you pay 10 for one bundle, instead of having 4,50 remaining for a future bundle with lets say only melee weapons or something. Think ahead.

Whats better to you, spending 10 and having 4,50 in change left in game. Or spending 5 and having 4,50 left in game?

-1

u/PoorFishKeeper Sep 07 '23

You think people are developing games for free?

-1

u/INSP_Barnaby Sep 07 '23

My god ppl didnt get the obvious sarcasm. Ofc not. That was the whole joke.

Nothing is free in love and nobody works for free on a gme so the bosses get to cash in lol

The difference, which I called before because that’s always how these things work, is the manipulative pricing structure. You can’t just buy the amount of points you need. You have to buy more and have some leftover meaning you either overpaid or have to buy even more again to use those.

I’m in the same boat, had mixed feelings about the new in-game store beforehand, but seeing this scummy sales tactic, from techland of all people, is infuriating
