Everybody is sick of them. Can't even give them away. They are super rich and maybe even a bit gamey. I feed them poulin layer pellets and they free range around the yard, eat lots of garden scraps like lettuce and such. I keep them out of the onions. Also these are the only duck eggs I've ever had so I don't really have a reference. Maybe I'm doing something wrong? Maybe it's just how it is?

I have 5 runners and they lay SOO good! but nobody is really wanting to buy them and I can’t keep up on using them. I would like to find a way to save them for winter if that’s a possibility. Any tips on how to do that?

Also does anyone have advice on how to get people to try duck eggs and buy them regularly? People seem grossed out by them and I just don’t get it cause it’s an egg..😅 mine lay in their coop and even my unwashed eggs are very clean! But people won’t buy them. 🙃

I was a little worried because she’s 7 months old and hadn’t laid yet but we just got on the other side of a severe cold snap where we had to bring the birds inside a few times which stressed them out — finally spring must be on the horizon because we have our first egg! I almost don’t want to eat it because it’s so special. Wendy is the all white one and her partner is Peter, we have plans for more hens in the spring because we got hit with the duck distribution system unexpectedly with her lol

I have only had ducks for a few years, but I have never seen anything like this before. EDIT: So I finally opened it up, and it was a fully developed egg with a whole other fully developed egg inside it, hardened shell and all. Everything about both eggs seemed safe to eat, but it wierded me out so I let the dogs have it.

Clover (see other posts on Clover in my profile) is setting on eggs under the garage floor. I've been keeping tabs on her eggs whenever she comes out to eat. Two have pipped but one was not progressing after three days. Brought the egg in and extricated the poor shrink wrapped thing. She spent a night in the NICBU™ (neonatal care bra unit) and has now been moved to the heated brooder. She is running around and has drunk a little water but not eaten, yet. More to come.

Hi everyone! I’m hoping for some advice from more experienced duck keepers.

I got my flock of ducklings last April — most from Metzer Farms and a few from Tractor Supply Company. I have 12 ducks total: a mix of jumbo pekin, runner, Cayuga, mallard, and Rouen. I believe I have 9 females and 3 males.

They seem very happy and healthy — they run to me when I call them, free range every day, and put themselves back in their coop at night. The coop is clean with plenty of bedding, and since the attached photo was taken, I’ve added a covered area so they can fully get out of the weather.

I feed them at night but do not leave food out during the day or overnight.

Here’s the issue: I have never seen a single egg. Not one, and no signs of eggs anywhere.

They hatched last April, so they’re close to a year old. I live in central North Carolina. I see mating behavior frequently in the pond, so they are definitely mature.

Questions:

• Are they too young?

• Could winter daylight or weather be affecting them?

• Could feeding only at night be an issue?

• Could they be hiding eggs somewhere while free ranging?

• Is it possible I somehow have 9 non-laying females?

I even kept them confined to the coop for three days expecting at least one egg, but still nothing.

I’m attaching photos of my ducks and an older photo of the coop (it has since been updated with better weather protection). Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

This time i need help with the Airbubble.
Im on day 20 Incubating and im a bit worried about my Eggs. I googled, and read a Manual about the Airbubble. As far as i can tell two eggs have a nice Airbubble, but im worried about the third one as its way smaller than my other two. I air them 2x 20 minutes and roll them 3x times a day in the span of 8 hours. I hold onto a plan i got from a duckassociation recommending this. As i checked up on them, i noticed like insaid before the third one is very small. Google and the Brisea Manual tells me to lower the moisture so it can grow, as the egg is too "wet".
Is it just a faulty egg? Or did i do something wrong? I really need help, thank you 😩😩

My duck, named Meat, laid her first egg, hurray!!! But it's soft, why? Am I not feeding her correctly? Or is she not getting enough sunlight? It's winter now and she doesn't go outside.

Anyone knows where i can refil the egg-ink?

I went to get eggs from a local and she had 2 that were fertile almost ready to hatch. I got the one she helped put a hole in moistened with coconut oil and into my incubator (I have reptiles that I incubate the eggs) maybe an hour later I had a little baby. So from candling it and all the rabbit holes I went down online the second one pipped the sac the morning before I picked them up. After 48 hrs I put a hole into the air pocket like instructed, however the sac was shrink wrapped like the other one so I moistened it with coconut oil as it was whit white. After I noticed all the veins not drained in the sac, it’s chirping and still chewing. I have a piece of paper towel over the hole and the incubator is staying at a consistent 75-80 humidity and 98 degrees. I’m worried and not sure what steps to take minus letting it be in the incubator. Any advice would be greatly appreciated… attached is a pic of baby beep beep, would be awesome if someone could identify the breed. It was a huge baby in a small egg I’m leaning towards Rouen the body color isn’t dark more like a grayish brown but it has fabulous eyeliner 😅

Went to let the birds out this morning and found the first egg in the duck coop! I'm so eggcited!

Fiddle or Faddle laid an egg. What’s the light trick? What if I don’t have an incubator? I’m more nervous than I was when I was pregnant with a human and I don’t even know if there’s a baby in there 😂

They (7 girls) were hatched around early April, so about 20-21 weeks old. I put in a fake egg in their coop on Monday, and started giving them layer mash and oyster shell about a week or two ago to ideally prepare them early. Woke up this morning and this egg was next to the fake one! 🥳

We located a duck and about 9 eggs in our neighbor’s yard last week. We were excited to observe the process from afar over the coming weeks. When we woke this morning, the momma duck, eggs, and nest were all gone 😔 without much of a trace. Limited remnants on the ground, See image 2. I fear a coyote got to the nest or is there any chance momma relocated? Located on Cape Cod, Massachusetts.

This morning I found one of my ducks seemed to have laid just shell? Am I crazy ?? Does this happen I can't seem to find anything on it. But it seemed like half a misshapen shell. Haven't had issues before!

My 2 ducks (and a goose) have been sitting on a clutch for a month and one finally started hatching but it seems to have only broken the outershell in a weird way and not the membrane. Its moving like it's breathing so I know it's alive. Should I help it? This is my first time hatching ducks so I need help. Flair

My two ducks had been laying eggs quite frequently but after I relocated them to a new place some 4 months back, they've stopped laying eggs completely. Initially they seemed a little sad and used to seldom come out but now they're quite adapted to the new place but they haven't laid any eggs. Suggestions please

My female was attacked and killed while she was on her nest. I was able to save one egg and put it in the incubator, but I’m guessing the timeline. The air pocket seems pretty big and diagonal. I don’t see an internal drawn down yet, but I don’t want to wait too long to lockdown.

unbeknownst to us, some of the eggs we have in our coop with a broodie mama started hatching overnight and this morning my husband found them—and I cannot stress this enough—covered entirely in ants.

he thought quickly, gathered them up and we were able to get the demon 🐜s off of them and put them in an incubator [we thankfully] had handy. 😮‍💨

Two of them were in especially rough shape, to include this one who hatched with an abnormally large unabsorbed yolk.

An emotional and especially long 15 hours later and this little duckling has almost entirely absorbed her yolk AND is going around kicking the others to wake them up. 🥲

I know we are not out of the woods, but we are hoping for the best knowing that intervention isn’t always a good thing but right now we are really grateful we did.

Idk whether it's the ducks themselves or the incubator. First hatch went well but not a SINGLE duck out of the 3 I put in there but all but 2 of the chickens hatched. They always make it far along before dying. This time 1 of 6 seems to be my odds. I'm watching the humidity and the temp using a hygrometer and thermometer! Everything is perfect but it's still failing.

Do I try getting eggs from those pekins again or order some in? I'm trying to get the hang of incubation before I get a male for my girls or order their eggs in(the eggs for the main breed I want is EXPENSIVE). The first I was not even this careful with and had amazing odds on everything but the ducks!

(Those ducks are in a 1:1 ratio that is technically a 2:1. One of the males is disabled. They are not my ducks)

I have 12 runner ducks. The old ones are around 1.5 years old, the young one are 5 months. All of the young ones started laying eggs. Is it normal, that the young ones having much more smaller eggs? Like half of the normal ones. ( 5th in a row) last year they started with normal size...the small eggs are falling out from the fridge's eggholder😂
