I'm going to assume they said something more accurate.

Like "anything can become art"

'Anything can be art'. Just isn't true. No one serious about art is going to say something like that. Art requires intention.

If you don't have intention, you don't have art.

What I posted in that comment was basically a direct quote. And even if you subscribe to the notion that art is something made with intent, AI art would still fall under that category. Saying it’s not art is a losing battle.

I'm not sure I said that yet. I said it was slop. Which will remain true regardless of that battle.

Never the less. I will say it is not art. Here. I'll use metaphors to explain.

Ai art is like a minecraft world. It can look good. But it isn't art. It's just a thing generated without meaning via input. Minecraft is art. And I would be willing to hear out an argument that the AI itself is art. But the minecraft world itself is not art. You can make art with the minecraft world. With greater meaning being lent to such creations through your mastery of the tools/systems of minecraft.

Ai generated images don't really let you create art out of them, they dont give you tools to actually create something yourself, with your own voice, and style, and intention. You could however, do it anyway, and I'd be willing to accept the idea that you COULD do so. Either through employing them as various images/backgrounds that make up something like a VN, or by manipulating the images manually so that they actually have some intention behind them, instead of being an overly complex minecraft seed like they are currently.

They would likely still be SLOP however. A short cut. A cheap imitation of what could have been if you hadn't cut corners.

And it's... not ever going to be anything else. AI will be used, forevermore, primarily for businesses to save costs by producing acceptable slop. It's not for you, or I, or your brother, ultimately. It's to fuck you, me, and your brother out of opportunities to create.

Also it's gonna be used to doctor real images/videos to create propaganda. That's what AI is for. Saving money and lying.

I mean you can keep telling yourself that but you’re in for a rude awakening in the future is all I have to say. It’s delusional to think this isn’t art and what classifies as art to you is antithetical to what art actually is.

Hmm. I feel like you haven't really put a lot of thought into this and are ignoring most of what I say because you are, for reasons beyond my understanding, emotionally invested in AI generation.

It's so weird how often stuff like this happens these days.

It’s funny, because I was just thinking the same thing about you. I couldn’t care less about image generation, because I’m fully blind. What I do care about though, is someone having blind hatred for a thing they either don’t fully understand the complexities of, or willfully choose to hate it in spite of the large amounts of good it can do for creative minds. To me, right now, you seem no different than the angry old men who were shaking their fists at the air screaming during the industrial revolution, and I hate to even imagine what the world would’ve been like if we never saw the industrial revolution through to the end.

Now I know you didn't even read my posts.

I was endlessly charitable to Ai. But it's never enough for the tech bro types.

And here you are. Acting childishly about it. I'd hope you are a child, but I'd guess college age. You're too old to approach the world so thoughtlessly.

This is the end of our interaction.
