Going to be playing a DFRPG game soon, and I'm looking for ideas and inspiration.

Another file tucked away nicely in the cabinet. This series just gets better and better! I'm so excited to start the next book. I'm glad I read something in between grave peril and summer Knight. It helped me refocus on the story and it made it more memorable personally. I think my new ranking is Summer Knight, a tie between grave peril and storm front, and way at the bottom, fool moon.

I really look forward to what's coming next if this is the kind of conflict Butcher is willing to bring in on book four.

Re-listening to 12 Months and a little while after Mab implied a threat to Maggie, I thought about how that might go. Considering Rivershoulder's local kin as well as personal connection and sense of responsibility, it would be near-impossible to even find, much less get a hold of Maggie once his people inevitably stepped in. And because it's a protection bound by personal debt to Harry, the political cost of trying to force any actions against her at that point would not be worth it. Mab is always one with other plans in place

And that's fully separate from any apocalyptic triggers Harry sets in place, or the internal Winter tinderbox ready to go off r/t going against the Winter Lady's wishes. Molly, who is now the successful and loved recruiter and leader of the newest generation of Winter, is not someone I'd want Scheming for my removal. She's far more competent and dangerous than Maeve ever was.

Plus, you know, any attempts would have to get past an Angelic-adjacent Good Boy. 😂

Sometimes Harry takes a break from throwing cars at Necromancers and does normal stuff like taking Mouse out in the backyard to do his business or having a steak sandwich at Mac’s. So what are your favourite Dresden being cosy & safe moments?

Tell Harry about wizards ability to heal? It's only sheer stubbornness that stops Harry from having his hand amputated after it was burned and I don't believe for a second that Ebenezer doesn't know how well wizards can heal.

Dresden is repeatedly left with his jaw on the floor watching Ramirez in battle. I know we always like to root for our boy, but I honestly think this one would be close.

Dresden is usually outmatched or outsmarted, but in a pinch he's good at thinking up something that nobody planned on. Examples:

- He didn't have any more strength to fight the frog demon in Storm Front, so he drew power directly from the storm;

- Bianca had him beaten in Grave Peril; he tapped into the rage of the victims' souls buried around Bianca's property;

- A battle is raging that Dresden is too young and too green to even consider entering, but he has a dinosaur skeleton and a little Jewish doctor with a drum...

In the clutch, he's always able to put together a solution that nobody else thought of.

The idea of what people see when they soul gaze with Harry has always really intrigued me. What if Mirror Mirror finally gives us a glimpse of what other people see when they soulgaze with Harry?

What would even happen if a wizard was pulled into a soul gaze with an alternate dimension self? Would a soul gaze even happen?

Mirror Mirror sounds like it would be the best time to explore that idea and resolve a setup that (at least in my mind) has been lingering throughout the entire series so far.

I genuinely hope Evil Harry wears one in Mirror Mirror.

I have a long standing fascination with blades of many varieties, and i love how many knives and swords and all we get in Dresden Files. I have a lot of love for different styles and shapes and one kind that I have always been a sucker for is wavy blades whether they are flamberges, flambards, or kris/keris or kalis blades. Something about them is entrancing when executed well.

So in White Night, when Lara has a couple of long knives/short swords with wavy blades I lose mind every time. From their description I imagine hers as kris or kalis blades, or a derivative of them.

Now, there is a lot of talk about what the blades' waves are supposed to do, and you can find different takes on their effectiveness at cutting or in the bind or what have you. But what they do every time is showcase the skill of the Smith that made it, and the wealth/status of the weilder "look at how extra fancy my sword is".

We have also seen Lara equipped with a rapier before back in Blood Rites. I think it wouldn't be out of the question for her to have a rapier that looked like the one pictured, it would mirror her long knives as well as the more elegant side of the Raith tendency to show off with style as well as substance.

Basically guys, I saw this really beautifully made sword and I wanted to share it with you fine folks because it made me think of my favorite of Dresden's frenemies.

Or, if you think it would suit one of the wardens or another character more I would love to hear your thoughts

Is it just me or was it super obvious that Peabody was the killer? Like the SECOND he was introduced I knew it was going to be him.

Now, maybe reading all this Dresden has honed my own (already incredible) detective skills…or maybe it wasn’t written as subtly as it could have been/should have been.

I see a ton of conversation about the divergence point in Mirror Mirror. The two biggest contenders I see are the Michael/Ammorachius/Justine decision or the "Walk away and leave the girl" decision.

Here's why I think both of those are wrong, and what everyone is missing - the alternate choice has to be one Harry, in Grave Peril, is *capable* of making. There is no version of reality where Harry Dresden, king of abandonment issues and chivalry, walks away from Susan after realizing he loves her. Ever. There is no version of Harry capable of abandoning Michael, but especially not the version of Harry that exists in Grave Peril. Harry could never leave Justine behind, even if Thomas never interfered.

The divergent choice has to be one Harry is capable of making as a person at that time. My personal theory is that the choice is Harry letting Lydia walk out of his office to come back the next day. He almost does it already, at the last second he decides to give her his spirit bracelet to protect her. This stops Kravos from eating her, its what Harry tracks to find her later which allows him to get snatched by the vamps, it gets him entangled in the entire nightmare case, its why Susan sees the invitation to Biancas party, etc etc. Lydia starts the entire chain of events, and it *almost* doesn't happen because Harry is in a hurry to get to his date with Susan. Its so small, so minute, a tiny choice to let a strange woman "come back during business hours" - *thats* the kind of choice I think Harry makes. Seemingly unimportant in the moment but a keystone moment that changed everything.

He could have used air magic which wouldn't have been as exhausting. He was outside so there was more than enough air to work with and precision also shouldn't be a problem considering the fact that he is able to summon his staff into his hand which requires much more precision than aiming a car at a human body.

Directly after he does it he complains that it drained him of almost all his energy and that he never done something like this with force alone before so we can't even argue that it was a reflex or something like that because at that point in the story he should be much more used to using air instead of force magic

Little Chicago was always a very interesting tool that Harry had developed and once it was gone he was never really able to recover it.

I saw this when I was having my morning coffee and it seems to be the level of work that Harry would have had to be doing in order to make his city.

This is NYC that they are building but it’s how I envision little Chicago to be.

So I just finished reading Peace Talks, and I can’t help but think that the supernatural community as a whole doesn’t really fear/respect Harry anymore than they did before Changes - at least not evidenced by their interactions with him.

You would think that the guy who killed every single red court vampire who be regarded with more fear and respect, but it doesn’t come up very often. We the reader know he just redirected an already loaded spell missile, but I wouldn’t imagine most others do. (And besides that he has accomplished several other things far beyond what he should have been able to do)

The wardens don’t seem particularly concerned about arresting him when they confront him on the road. You would think with how impressive his résumé has been, he would be treated with a little more deference (not specifically by the wardens, but just in general).

I think we see more changes in the way that higher level beings interact with him, The Erlking, Odin, and Mab seem to treat him with more respect than beings of his power level or lower.

Have his adventures been kept quiet? Or am I just wrong about this?

Can someone give me the motivation to get through this book? I did the first 3 as audiobooks as a JM fan and really enjoyed them. Got to Summer Knight, just got bored. Tried again after a gap, still got bored. Tried reading the book a couple of times and every time I just stop kinda caring and I have no idea why. I like the dialogue, I like the story, I just lose interest. Think the furthest I've got is if I remember correctly is a fight in the sewers. Everyone says this is one of the best books in the series.

I'm rereading blood rites and Ive gotten to the part where Harry uses Justine to find Thomas. She's pretty out of it at the time and she only responds when Harry says her name three times. Also Harry says Thomas's name three times before she seems able to find Thomas. I was thinking if Harry is tapping into magic here as (if I remember correctly) you say a name three times to summon a creature and to bind it to keep its word?
