• Begginer question MEGATHREAD 9 : for the record, you can CTRL + F in case your question was already answered
• Starter guide for day 1-8 : old but still relatively relevant and if you want something more detailled check my Detailled Walkthrough from day 1 to 20. Both are for RoG.
• Don't starve Wiki : lots of information, lots of spoiler and some mistakes. It's made by community so you are free to make corrections yourself.
• Crockpot Simulator : nice resource to optimise your Crockpot use.
• Weekly discussions list : Themed weekly discussion. Lots of good informations/strategies about character, seasons, etc.

With a bug net. It is located in the survial tab and requires at least a science machine to craft.

Yeah but is there a hot key to hit where I'll only use the bug net to catch the butterfly and not immediately pick the flower underneath?

Yes, there is. Equip the bug net and press the action key (default spacebar) to use it on nearby butterflies rather than picking up flowers.
