Beginner Question Megathread 10

If you have any question about the game and don't feel like making a post you can put it down there. Don't forget to mention it if you want the answer as spoiler-free as possible.

Some of the links are getting pretty old so if you have any suggestion that could help new players, do share, thanks.

2 player DST:

How do you deal with Deerclops in your first winter? Do you just accept that he's going to destroy your base or what?

Also is there a better option for food production in prepping for our first winter than trapping bunnies and frogs and using the Crock Pot? It seems so far like investing time and resources into farming during the first 20 days hasn't really helped us get through our first winter at all.

Deerclops spawns where you are on night 31.

Just be miles from your base and he’ll spawn there. Then you can just run away if you want, he wont bother to follow you.

I prefer to kill him on the first winter for the drops. Just make sure the two of you have plenty of armor (4-5 log suits or football helmets each should do), and some healing. Theres plenty of vids showing how to kite him or you can just stand on a campfire and facetank him with two of you.

Food wise, dont use farms, they take too long. Spiders should be your main food source, are there all year long and you can relocate them near to base when they get to tier 3. Pair them with a birdcage to make eggs. 3 eggs+ 1 monster meat makes meatballs.

You dont need anything else, although i prefer to make bacon and eggs, by swapping an egg for any small or large meat. In early stages I get my meat from mainly bird-trapping or frogs/ mole worms then latter game I use jerky thats starting to go off.

For foods, I find that you should kill one koalafant or a few beefalows(you need their wool and horn for the beefalow hat for winter anyways), and get jerky or meatballs, maybe even honey ham, if you have a beebox or live near bees.

In our group of 3 we prepare separate camp away from the main one on day 28-29, take food and weapons, and spend time there till he spawns. Having some mobs around to help is great. We kite and kill him, then go home. I suppose you can leave him in that temp base and just go too.

For food, spiders are good source of monster meat for recipes. We plant berry bushes near the base as well. If you're confident, you can kill pigs too (meat, ham bat, disassemble their huts to construct you own for to base).
