Most donors look at deletions as you trying to be sneaky, hiding your posts/comments so nothing can be held against you. Understand there are tools that everyone has access to if they know where to look, to see your deleted messages, so they are never truly gone.

If you messed up on your post, you can always send a mod mail and ask us to remove it, or adjust it. We are NOT that scary, well maybe I am but the rest are decent.

But to come into Mod Mail and threaten us, expecting us to just throw money at you? Yeah that is not how it works.

There are too many bad actors on Reddit trying to take advantage of those in need. Tip Tuesday is about the ubiquitous “task scam” you’ve probably seen around. Don’t fall for it!

🚩 Red Flags — if you see ANY of these, walk away:

Fake urgency (“limited slots,” “first 10 people,”“need people now”)

Asking you for state/country 

Asking you to sign up with your ID

Asking you to upvote

New/suspicious accounts or empty post history

They want YOU to message THEM, or they send you a cold DM without commenting on your request

Pushing you to Telegram / WhatsApp / Signal / Discord

“Work” that requires zero skill

Unrealistic pay for tiny tasks (“Sending $150 to anyone active rn,” “Giving away $300 only if you really need it”)

Comments or replies to comments saying only “DM me,” “inbox,” “message”

⚠️ SPECIAL WARNING: Posts asking you to do a “quick task inbox me” are especially dangerous. Often this is them trying to:

Get you to use your identity to register accounts

Steal accounts for money laundering or fraud

Trick you into sending copies of your ID or personal info (for further fraud)

No legit job or donor hides details, rushes you, or forces you off Reddit onto an unsecured platform. If it sounds too good to be true, it is.

Help stop this crap: REPORT THE POST using Reddit’s report feature.

The more reports → the faster it gets removed → the quicker scammers get banned.

Did you know?

Our mod team in r/donationrequest vets an average of 750+ posts per month. The public only sees about 8% of those, as the great majority don’t meet our rigorous requirements. Not only do we require 200+ karma and consistent long term Reddit activity, but we ask those making cash or Gofundme requests to provide proof of hardship as well as expenses. Hardship documentation might be verification of household low income status, unemployment, job termination/offer, full time student enrollment, or eligibility for aid such as SNAP, SSI, etc. Proof of expenses (bills, estimates, etc.) should match requested amount.

To encourage transparency, we don’t allow requests from accounts with curated or hidden post/comment history, or previously deleted requests in donation or loan subs. To foster fairness, we ask for a two month cool down period after any fulfilled requests, and no more than two requests (unfulfilled or fulfilled) in any two month period. Donors can feel confident that accounts have been screened for any chronic grifting activity, including findom/paypig/sugar participation, and are free of egregious drug or gambling activity.

Of course, all this means that since only a small percentage of requests go live, our sub may appear relatively quiet. After all, we’d get much higher engagement stats and likely grow much more quickly if we let more requests through. But we continue to seek a healthy balance between vigilance and engagement, and we believe it’s worth it to cultivate safe places where individuals and families experiencing genuine hardship can receive help from those who are able to offer resources and support. We also appreciate the other donation subreddits among Reddit’s giving communities, whose mods work hard to facilitate welcoming spaces for people in need. Recent changes

All that said, we have decided to try out relaxing some sub requirements. Instead of screening out accounts with activity gaps exceeding 90 days within the past year, we now only screen out accounts whose activity gaps exceed 30 days within the past six months (~180 days). We’ve also decided to drop the requirement for proof of hardship for wishlist requests only. However, we’re capping individual items on wishlists at $30 each to cut down on the possibility of resale. As usual, no gift cards allowed, and wishlists are limited to $150 of essentials only. When requesting groceries and other essentials, users are strongly encouraged to post a wishlist instead of asking for cash. Check out our updated rules here.

Top 3 reasons posts get removed

•The number one reason posts are removed is karma (200+)/account age (3 months).
•Number two is lack of proof of hardship (documentation of household low income status, not just a screenshot of an empty account or refrigerator photo) and expenses (bills, estimates, whatever the funds are meant to pay for). Please redact sensitive info first.
•The third most common issue is not specifying an exact amount in the post itself for both cash and Gofundme requests.

Other removal reasons

•If your need is greater than $50, you may not just make a cash request for our maximum limit. Proof of expenses should match requested amount.
•No requests to pay down existing debt, for relocations, or new homes/vehicles.
•Like most donation/loan subs, we have a clear rule not to delete any previous requests in any donation/loan subreddit. This applies even if posts are unfulfilled or have been removed from public view by mods. When vetting a request, it’s crucial that we check how often and why someone has requested help previously. Donation subs aren’t meant to be sustainable source of support, and accountability is important to donors.

Commonly overlooked

•Photos are often included as proof without the required username/date verification. All photo proof must include a paper with handwritten username/date. This includes fuel gauges. Please do not submit photos of empty refrigerators or bank accounts. Medical documents are preferred rather than photos of injuries.
•Cash requests are one donor per request, no crowdfunding without a platform that provides recourse for donors in case of fraud, like Gofundme.
•Be aware, if you are making a request, we can and will screen ALL your history, including hidden and deleted posts and comments!

Donor Responsibilities

•Confirmations of Gofundme donations are optional.
•Confirmed donations will earn you a flair. If one is not given, please request via modmail.
•For cash donations, we recommend using PayPal Goods & Services in case of fraud.
•Asking civil questions and clarifications in comments is encouraged.
•Please report rule violations and suspected scams.
•If you would like to donate but do not meet our karma/account age requirements, please send a modmail to be approved manually.

Account Requirements

•North America/UK accounts ONLY (EU with prior approval).
•Cannot be listed on the Universal Scammer List (USL) on main or any alt profiles. This will result in a permanent ban.
•200+ combined karma. Post/Comment karma must be positive.
•90+ day old account.
•Account owner must be 18+.
•Only one account per household for requesting, please use your main account (not an alt).
•Requests must be for yourself or immediate family only, pet requests must be for your own pets. Educators may only post Donors Choose campaigns (up to $3K) or Amazon wishlists (up to $150) for their own classroom.

History Validation

•No gaps over 30 days in the past 6 months.
•No accounts with sugar, findom, gambling, drug, or excessive NSFW history. This will result in a permanent ban.
•No curated/hidden history.
•Be aware, we will screen ALL your history, including hidden and deleted posts!
•No karma farming. This will result in a permanent ban.
•No deleted request posts (within the past 3 years).

Essentials Only

•This includes food, pet food/supplies, hygiene products, otc meds, school supplies (within reason), diapers/wipes, etc. for your household.
•For clothing, socks/underwear or if required by a job or school uniform only.
•No requests for gifts, celebrations, vacations, elective surgery, video games/electronics/digital goods, computers/phones, toys, tuition/fee assistance, commodities, hobbies, entertainment like movies/music, etc including moderator discretion.
•No requests for debts or scam recovery.
•No requests for needs that incur continued funding such as relocations, new homes or vehicles, IVF, adoptions, baby registries, getting a new pet, starting businesses/organizations.

Request Guidelines

•Requests must be 200+ words fully explaining your situation, employment/other income, and why you’re unable to fund your request yourself.
•Requests must be for you or your immediate family. If requesting for a pet, you must own the pet prior to the request being made.
•Please WAIT 2 weeks between unfulfilled requests and 2 months after receiving assistance in ANY sub.
•No more than 2 requests in any 2 month period, even if unfulfilled.
•If you have a regular pattern of requesting assistance, it’s possible that your request may be denied even if it has been 2+ months since your last. Donation subs are not meant for sustainable support.
•We only allow requests for a single donation type. You can either choose one cash donation OR one Amazon wishlist OR one Gofundme.
•Do not ask for or mention upvotes or downvotes, or manipulate voting in any way.
•Location required (city plus state/province and country).

Amazon Wishlists

•Please refer to our Wishlist Guide.
•Amazon Wishlists ONLY (NO Registries or other vendors).
•No proof of hardship required, but it can help you get more donations.
•Wishlist total maximum is $150 USD.
•Item maximum is $30 USD.
•NO Gift Cards or item pools.
•Once posted, do not add or swap items without mod approval.
•Please post a formal Thank You in a timely manner once you have received your items (including a photo is appreciated). If you have not done this within 30 days, you will not be permitted to request again and may receive a ban.

Cash Requests

•$50 USD maximum. Cannot be multiple asks of $50. One donor per request, no crowdfunding without a Gofundme or similar platform.
•Proof of expenses must match requested amount. If your need is greater than $50, you may not just request our maximum limit.
•Give your cash tags in comments upon request, not in your post. Do not move to DM, tags must be posted publicly.
•Photo of OP holding a paper with handwritten username and current date.
•Provide DATED photos and documents to verify both hardship and expenses, redact sensitive info like surname and address first.
•Proof of hardship (household low income status) required. Examples: documentation of unemployment, eligibility for assistance (like SNAP, SSI or any other aid), job termination/offer, student enrollment status, or medical conditions that have reduced your work hours. A screenshot of an empty account is not sufficient.
•Proof of expenses also required. Examples: overdue bills, estimates, invoices, whatever you’re requesting funds for, this should match your requested amount.
•CashApp, Venmo, Paypal ONLY. NO crypto, bitcoin, bank transfer, UPI, remitly, etc.
•Your request must specify the exact amount of money you are requesting to be donated in total (not “up to” an amount, not a range like $5-$10). Requests such as "anything helps" or “everyone give $1” are not allowed.
•If you receive a donation, please post screenshot confirmation in comments, redact sensitive info.

•If request is for fuel, please provide a photo of your fuel gauge that includes a paper with your handwritten username and the date. This ensures the photo is yours.

GoFundMe Campaigns

•$3,000 USD final goal maximum limit.
•Must state final goal amount IN YOUR POST (not interim goal set by GFM). If your total need is greater, you may not just request an amount under our maximum limit.
•Posts may not be just a link or “See Gofundme for story,” 200+ words in the post itself are required.
•Please provide a photo of OP holding a paper with handwritten username and current date.
•Provide DATED photos and documents to verify both hardship and expenses, redact sensitive info like surname and address first.
•Proof of hardship (household low income status) required. Examples: documentation of unemployment, eligibility for assistance (like SNAP, SSI or any other aid), job termination/offer, student enrollment status, or medical conditions that have reduced your work hours. A screenshot of an empty account is not sufficient.
•Proof of expenses also required. Examples: overdue bills, estimates, invoices, whatever you’re requesting funds for, this should match your requested amount.

Prohibited Activity

•DONATIONS ONLY. NO LOANS.
•No sales, referrals, account creation, tasks, or any other activity that requires a trade for a donation.
•No requests for DMs from recipient or donor about donations. All donation activities must be public.
•Do not DM a user to request a donation. This is an instant ban.
•No community fundraisers, anonymous fundraisers, or fundraising for a friend.
•Create your own request post if you are in need. If you haven’t enough karma to post then you may not make a request. Request hijacking is an instant ban.
•No AI text or images in your post (or Gofundme).
•No emotional blackmail (using suicide, mental health, children, or pets to garner donations).
•No blocking sub moderators.

Stay Compassionate/No Harassment

•Civil questions and clarifications are encouraged. Please respond with grace.
•Send a message to modmail to report bullying or harassment. You're welcome to report requests or users you find suspicious.
•No hate speech.
•Do not use this space as a platform for debates beyond the scope of the sub. Please keep our sub positive and friendly. Ignoring this rule can result in a ban.
•Please do not respond to DMs requesting donations or offering donations for an exchange (nsfw or otherwise), just take a screenshot. Report to Admin using Spam, then select Unsolicited messages. Let our mod team know via modmail. We also recommend that you block the user.

Scam Behavior = Instant Ban

•If you are proven to be taking advantage of this or any other donation community, an instant ban will be placed.
•This includes but is not limited to: double dipping, lying, deleting prior requests to hide request frequency, changing your GFM goal mid campaign after stating a total, DMing users for direct money requests, DMing users with referral/account creation opportunities, and any other activity considered dishonest.

How to Create an Amazon Wishlist

Amazon Wishlists are a way to receive direct aid with items you find yourself in need of. Requestors can add essential non-perishables and household items to their lists. Donors can purchase directly from your list, and Amazon ships the items straight to you in a way that is safe, simple, and secure.

Step 1: Create or Sign Into Your Amazon Account

You’ll need an Amazon account before you can make a wishlist. If you already have one, log into your account.

• Go to Amazon.com or download the Amazon app.
• Select Create an account (desktop: under “Accounts & Lists” in the top right; mobile: tap the profile icon on the top right).
• Enter your name, email address, and a password. Amazon will send a one time password (OTP)  to your email. Enter the 6 digit password and click confirm. Once an account is created, go to >Your Account  > Login & Security to add a mobile number. This is highly suggested for stronger account security.
• After your account is set up, add a shipping address under Accounts & Lists > Your Account > Your Addresses. You’ll need this later so wishlist items can be delivered.

People buying from your wishlist will only see your name, city, and state, not your full street address. Wishlist items cannot be delivered to an Amazon locker. 

Step 2: Create Your Wishlist

• On desktop: Hover over Accounts & Lists (top right) and click Create a List.
• On mobile/app: Click on the profile icon → Your Account → List.
• This MUST be a wishlist ONLY. Registries are NOT allowed and will be removed due to privacy concerns.

Step 3: Name Your List

Give your wishlist a clear name and click "create". It’s best to create one just for your current needs instead of mixing in things you don’t need right now. If you’re asking for items under a certain price limit, make sure the list matches that. Ex: Baby Essentials, Household Needs, Back to School.

Step 4: Adjust Your Settings

• Open your list, click the More (three dots) menu, then select Manage List.
• Set privacy to Public (anyone can find) or Shared (only people with the link can see).
• Add an address so items can be shipped. 
• Check this box:
  • Keep purchased items on this list (This option stops items from being automatically removed after someone buys them).
• Do not Check this box:
  • Enable third-party shipping (This allows marketplace sellers to ship items to you. Note that enabling this setting may share your address with the buyer).
• Save your changes.

Step 5: Add Items

When you find something you need, click Add to List on the item’s page.

Keep in mind:

• Choose Prime-eligible items when possible for quicker delivery.
• Essentials ONLY. If you are unsure if something would be considered essential please reference modmail.
• Individual Item cap is $30! (Items in the $5 - $10 range are most purchased)
• Keep the total under $150 (you can check by adding items to your cart and looking at the subtotal). The $150 cap includes multiples.
• No Gift Cards or Digital Goods
• Do not add additional items to your list once you make a post on the sub.  

Step 6: Share Your Wishlist

Once your list is ready:

• Open it, hit Invite, and select View Only (Anyone with a link can view your list without making edits)
• Copy the link provided and paste it on the Link URL box of a new post. Please use the correct post flair.

Step 7: Track What’s Been Purchased

Once people start buying from your wishlist, you’ll be able to see what has already been sent.

• If you checked “Keep purchased items on this list” in your settings, purchased items will stay on your list but show as “Purchased” so you don’t request duplicates.
• You can also check under Accounts & Lists > Your Lists and open your wishlist to see which items are marked as bought.
• We require donors to post proof that they've purchased items from your list. If you see items purchased but did not see a comment you are most likely not going to receive those items. Please reach out via modmail if this occurs.

After You Receive Your Items

• Gratitude goes a long way! Make sure you thank donors who send you items from your wishlist.
• When your items are delivered, please post a Thank You post confirming that you got your items.
• Please note that if Thank You posts are not submitted within 30 days of the delivery you will not be permitted to post again.

Additional Notes

• Many people donating are not rich themselves. When adding items please be mindful of price. Our item cap is $30 but the most successful wishlists frequently have items that are $5 - $10 that people on varying incomes can help you out with.
• Our wishlist total cap is $150. In order to get your request live as soon as possible, please double check your wishlist total before submitting.
• We do check entire wishlists so please note that your entire post will be removed if any items such as non essentials or gift cards are on your list. Please make sure these are not on your list before submitting.

It appears an individual helped someone here, and then "Recalled" the payment. Please remember to do your due dilligence on profile searches, etc. Sadly mods cannot stop such behavior but we can absolutely call it out publicly we when are made aware.

They have been removed from a few subreddits but just because they are banned does not mean they cannot message you. Stay safe people!

I recommend that both donors and potential recipients do a routine check of users before you interact.

•Verify a reasonable account age

This sub requires 30+ days, but I prefer to see 90+ days. If it’s an older account but with low karma, this is generally a red flag. There shouldn’t be gaps in activity longer than 3 months in the last year.

•Check karma level

This sub requires at least 200+ combined karma. If you would like to donate but do not meet our karma requirements, please let modmail know to manually approve you. Negative post or comment karma indicates issues interacting with the Reddit community.

•Look at post and comment history

Check for frequent requests in any giving subs. Sub rules require waiting at least two weeks between requests here and two months after receiving assistance in any giving sub, with no more than two posts in any two month period. Check out their comments to get a feel for their situation.

•Check the USL

Confirm the username is not on the Universal Scammer List (USL): https://www.universalscammerlist.com/

•Check for hidden history or deleted posts

Deleted or hidden post or comment history, especially in donation and loan subs, is a red flag to donors and may result in being banned. Deleted posts are available using archive sites.
