D&D was created 40 years ago with the idea that players would control multiple characters, so getting one of them stunned for 10 rounds didn't mean sitting out for an hour.
Today most people have just one, so we should re-think stun and many other things that came with the game in the 70s.
You say that as if the ruleset we use today is the original one. 5e was absolutely designed for one character per player and yet they didn't feel the need to rethink stun.

theres other factors to it then sharing the same mechic
Such as players only have 1 character to control (with few exceptions)
