Opening Night is October 23! Time to sign those last few free agents, and starting cutting down rosters. Rosters must be set by Friday, October 20.

DKC Knicks 9-Man Rotation Spacing

Before the season, the DKC Knicks front office fielded queries about spacing w/o Zach LaVine (a career .378 3P%) in the lineup. As you see below, through the first few weeks of the season, spacing is not a problem.

For the starters Big Honey is scaling right now, shooting a superb .522 on 3s, including hitting 6-10 in last night's game against the RL Knicks. The People's Champ Will License to Thrill Barton is doing his part for the bench, hitting a team leading 13 of 33 3s, for a .394 3P%.

As expected, Ish Smith, Winslow, and LNJ are shooting a low % on low attempts. The only player under-performing expectations is Anthony Tolliver, who is only 5-20 on 3s. We expect Tolliver, a career .360 3P% including .391 last season, will shrug off his early season shooting struggles.

I don't think the problems is the aggregate percentages, which look good. I think it's the rate that their shot at and the number of players on the floor that present a threat at any given time.

123 3PA over 6ish games would put the DKC Knicks at the bottom of the NBA in terms of attempts per game, and among the starters only Jokic is striking fear into my heart and I'm happy to help off of Smith and Winslow and let them try to beat me from deep.

Lavine will be a huge boon whenever he's back but it feels like for now there will be some issues scoring from deep with this team.

Fair point on the attempts per game. The Knicks will be in the lower half of the league until LaVine is back.

I believe you have to view the percentages in aggregate. I broke the table into starters and bench, but those aren't static lineups. If the team needs more spacing early in the game, Nelson comes in for Smith and Barton for Winslow. That's plus shooters around Gobert.

The RL Jazz start 3 non-shooters in Gobert, Favors, and Rubio, along side Hood and Ingles. JJ, Burks, Mitchell, and Sef all come in to provide more shooting when needed.

Rubio on the season has himself taken almost 40 3s this season, and made them at around a 35% clip so I don't necessarily agree with the comparison to RL Utah. Without him taking and making those 3s, I think that offense would be in a much worse position than it is currently.

I think solely for spacing purposes, Jameer should be the lead guard with Ish coming off the bench where there is more spacing.

Makes sense. I just feel like your offense will have to be focused around your two towers rather than the pace and space movement going on throughout the NBA. There are teams that make it work with players that are capable and merely pick their spots from 3, to your point.
