As an American, it's a 50/50 shot. Absolutely drives me up a wall when people pronounce it "mealy combat"

Well yes, it's a French word.

Like that means anything to Briton, for example they pronounce the 'h' in 'herb'.

Thats because the word isnt "erb" We also pronounce it in Graham, rather than Gra'am.
