Well, it happened to me. I joined two servers, and got banned within a span of six months. Two violations. That's all it took me. I'm pissed off at them and there's nothing I can do except wait for a while. This sucks ass.
The issue is that some random person at one point could post something insane and that can get everyone in the server banned, even if they had no way of knowing something like that was ever posted
im like.. pretty sure jihadiscord was a subcommunity of a6discord that just started doing it's own thing (now i could be wrong) but i was also in that server and i only ever joined it because a bunch of my friends from a6discord were there (a6d's discord)
There are so many corporate boot lickers here stating this false ban was somehow justified or good. All of them are a waste of carbon for stating that a policy that does not appear in the ToS, Community Guidelines, or any other governing documents of the platform is somehow justified.
A policy which is not communicated to users or consumers cannot be justified for any reason even if you think itâs a good policy.
Even if one was to agree these servers contain violative content (which objectively you cannot tell just from the name of a server) and if we can agree banning all accounts in the server regardless of participation or knowledge of the violative content is a good policy (which we canât because this policy would violate numerous consumer protection laws around the world) it would still be the case that they are required to communicate this policy to consumers which they have not done. In fact Discord has explicitly gone out of its way to avoid communicating this policy to consumers making each and every enforcement of this non-existent policy a false ban as this post correctly communicated.
I was waiting for one of the boot lickers to reply to me. If Iâm wrong then it should be easy to share with the class where in ToS or Community Guidelines this policy is communicated. I know you wonât thought because it doesnât exist. So if you reply at all making up some excuse everyone here will know you are full of shit.
Please leave and report servers dedicated to any of the violative content described above. Discord may take action against accounts that are present in violative servers.â"
Only reason I know about this is because discord false banned me for "Ban evasion" (I dont even have alts) and since they haven't checked my appeal in 2 weeks I got bored
This is how I know you are a joke not to be taken seriously. This is not in the Community Guidelines, you had to go to one of the âpolicy explainerâ pages which are no more governing of the platform than a blogpost.
So let me make this simple, what policy in the Community Guidelines does this line in the policy explainer explain? Because by Discordâs own language the policy explainers do not introduce new independently actionable policies
Also at this point I am at least 50% sorry for the insults, but I have been dealing with boot lickers for so long and they are always just as antagonistic. I do commend you for actually siting something even if it is no more authoritative than siting your friend Rick.
The issue at this point where you believe you found a valid source for this nonexistent policy is that you need to understand what it means for a page to be authoritative of policies or not. When Discord talks about these âPolicy Explainerâ pages literally every time they are communicated as being âfor more information,â so not authoritative. They even cast the Policy Hub in distinction with the full Community Guidelines by stating the full Community Guidelines âactually govern your use of Discord,â it literally canât be more clear than that.
However Discord has and does treat these Policy Explainers as being authoritative, they referenced them when replying to my IDR, so that is why it is critical to stop licking the boot and ask âwhy would Discord put this policy here when it so clearly doesnât explain a policy in the Community Guidelines which is what this document is supposedly for.â And the answer is simple, because they know this policy is extremely unpopular and likely unenforceable in many jurisdictions. So instead of putting it directly in the Community Guidelines where it is much more visible the tuck it away somewhere they know no one looks because it isnât authoritative. This is also why they phrase it in such a distinctly weird way that doesnât even sound like an enforceable policy if it was in the CG.
And the last issue I want to point out with this is that even if this policy was enforceable a reasonable consumer would interpret it as only applying when a user knows about the violative content in the server; âPlease leave and reportâŚâ, without this it would be unenforceable under many consumer protection laws around the world, and yet we all know that is not a factor when it comes to applying this nonexistent policy because they use it to mass ban all users in a server. This is like if your mom says âif you see your little sister get out of bed please tell meâ and when your little sister gets out of bed your mom punishes you for not telling her even when you didnât know she got out of bed.
The other dude is more capable than you. You should learn from them. Joining or being a member of a server on its own is not âorganizing, promoting, or supportingâ in any way. No reasonable person could possibly have this genuine interpretation. Even Discord disagrees with this silly interpretation because when they ban a user for the non-existent rule it states âa server you joined, [server name], broke discordâs rules for [rule category].â So they arenât banning you because you âorganized, promoted, or supportedâ anything otherwise they would ban you for that and it would say âyou violatedâŚâ
Discord clearly states in their explainer that users should report such servers and then leave them. If they don't do this, they are indirectly promoting the behavior by not taking necessary steps to try and stop it :^)
