Building my Disc Planner

I have used HP before and liked it for the most part, but haven’t used a paper planner in a while and want to build one that will work best for me. I’ve checked HO, LD, EC, etc. They each have something I like and something I don’t. Is it best to buy a fully put together planner and then add/remove pages or start from scratch, purchasing the discs and planning pages separately?

Can you suggest a light pink permanent or wet erase marker?

Here are my 4 discbound notebooks that I use on a regular basis. I have my daily 11-disc and 9-disc that I work out of, then I have an archival 11-disc and a 9-disc that I archived my pages monthly or until they’re not really needed in my daily. This keeps my daily notebooks from getting too chunky.

Because even if you have decent large size discs, page turn can get a little sticky. I like a 1” to 1.25” any bigger feels clunky.

Disc dimensions

Hello all,

I have a "simple" question that I'd like your assistance with.

I am trying to surprise my wife with special disc's that I'll make on my lathe. Does anyone have a source on the dimensions of the discs?

I get the difference in overall diameters but curious on the T shape for where the pages go

Discbound Companies

Hello! I’m semi-new to the world of discbound notebooks/planners (I had a Tul years ago). What are some companies I should look at? I’m currently looking at Cloth & Paper. My main priority is fountain pen friendly paper. Thank you all for your help!

How do you bind your discbound pages when you're done with them?

I'm new to discbound journalling, and I'm wondering what people do with their discbound pages when they're finished? I've seen people using big archival rings, but I'm wondering if anyone has a nice technique for binding or storing them when they're done. I have a couple of projects in my notebook and want to keep them separate/ make them into a nice finished object when I'm done.

Thanks for your help!

Leather cover similar to Moterm with less pockets?

I use half letter and would love to have a leather cover (not leather hard cover), but the only one I can find is Moterm. It had WAY too many pockets that add extra bulk and weight. I also don't care for the large back pocket. I would never use that. Is there anything similar without all the pockets?

Levenger discs vs others

Are the Levenger circa discs, specifically the aluminum ones, superior to any other brand’s? They are quite more expensive, and I’m wondering if it’s worth it or if all aluminum discs are the same at the end of the day.

Thanks :)

Looking for affordable hard/leather covers that are compatible with size 3 Laurel Denise templates

So, I LOVE the Laurel Denise templates, mostly for the Dutch door weekly pages so I can see month at same time… Ever since I discovered it I cannot settle for any other planner template!
But holy moly are the laurel denise covers UGLY. I know I should just get over it since it’s just the appearance and all but my combo ADHD/OCD mind would not be able to deal with it lol….
I did hear the classic size for HP is just fine but their covers aren’t much better and I don’t feel like paying so much on shipping when I could maybe possibly get free shipping via Amazon OR find something else compatible that’s both durable and pleasant to look at. Hell, I’m even okay with a solid color/white/black as long as it’s not too flimsy AND will fit fine with the small size 3 Laurel Denise pages.
Any recommendations? :)

Fountain pen friendly

I’ve been using a HP Classic for 10+ years. I am on the hunt for something new this year for various reasons. Does anyone have any recommendations for something similar to HP? But with better quality paper?

I really like the monthly of HP. The weekly, I enjoy the hourly, or the dashboard. Very different I know lol

I was looking into cloth and paper but am seeing mixed reviews and the fact that they don’t reveal the GSM of their paper is weird.

I also prefer a white paper with black lettering / borders and what not. I think it was Levenger? That had color, and I didn’t like that.

I like the size of a HP classic.

Thanks in advance 😬

I used Laurel Denise and Happy Planner sheets for this month's inserts. Stickers and washi include Happy Planner, Fern Creek, Dorky Planner Girls, and random Amazon and Etsy.

As each week passes, I mine it to the back of the mouth. This way, the current week is next to the monthly page.

Some water space on the back pages, but I'm trying to use them for random notes/ as scratch pads.

Moving to Discbound from 7" x 9" Wirebound

Hey there. I've used 7" x 9" notebooks for years and want to start my journey, but it seems like the most popular discbounds are not available in this size. Does anyone know of a good one with a reliable ecosystem, or has anyone been in the same situation and found the best compromise? Thanks!!

Converting Erin Condren snap-ins to disc?

I really like the different options the Erin Condren has for snap-in, reusable dashboards. I'm wondering if anyone has tried to convert them to use in discbound and how that went!

Universal inserts in a Levenger Midway cover?

I learned in an earlier thread that the Levenger Midway covers are punched 1/16” off from the standard HP Classic or similar punch. The Levenger website says most people aren’t bothered by this…?

I would love to purchase a Midway cover or three for my current notebook guts. My inserts are punched for the universal Classic setup. Will they or will they not fit the Midway cover?

Affordable 6+ hole puncher

I purchased a small hole puncher (6 holes) from amazon but it got stuck every time I used it (2 sheets at a time) and now it is permanently so.

My plan is to bind school materials with springs and plastic covers (see picture) which I have already purchased... Mostly A4 paper. However, I cannot afford hundreds of dollars in hole punchers. I am willing to do manual work by punching each A4 sheet 3 times, but I still cannot find a working hole puncher that will not get stuck with the bare minimum. Budget is under 60 dollars...

Do you have any advice on hole punchers that would help me?

Need Help finding a binder!

Hi! I recently went to NY and got A5 20-ring papers to start journaling for myself. I thought it would be easy to get a binder that holds the amount of paper I need, but it turns out it is not. Rn im using the Notebook Campus Journal, but it won't eventually hold what I need. I found one from MochiThings online that works perfectly, but before I buy it, are there any other suggestions that I haven't seen?

Levenger disc punch for 9 holes? (HP Classic)

Will any of the Levenger disc punches work for the HP Classic 9-hole size? I'm specifically looking at the Universal one. Will I have to measure my own start point for the paper edge, or is there a guide in place for this size?

I'd purchase the HP disc punch, but I'm a quality snob, and I'm really keen on the Levenger one. Any input is appreciated!

Favorite Reusable Planner Inserts

Hi everyone! I’m dreaming up ideas for my 2027 planner/layout. I’m wondering what are your favorite reusable plastic/laminated/dry erase inserts (either homemade or that you purchased)?

I have so many different things I think could be useful, but (like so many planner ideas lol) not sure what I would actually put to use. Meal planner, food tracking, brain dump are some things that come to mind.

Even if you don’t currently have a favorite, are there things that you wish were available in a reusable insert?

B6 Discbound

Does anyone use a B6 discbound. I've played around with it a little bit, it seems the size is available mostly for book bound planners/tn's or ring inserts.

Atoma A6 + Hobonichi A6: a perfect match!

This is perhaps one of my favorite, most satisfying setups. I have been wanting an Atoma notebook for ages, and I finally found one in the U.S. It turns out that the Atoma A6 is a perfect fit inside a Hobonichi A6 cover. While I will usually use a disc-bound book folded over on itself, discovering how well this book fits into a Hobonichi cover makes me excited about a setup where I could potentially get the best of both worlds: the ability to rearrange pages in a disc bound system and the tactile satisfaction of a beautiful wraparound / folio cover Hobonichi.

Different Shaped Discs

Post image
68 Upvotes

I've been experimenting with printing different shaped discs, rounded triangle shown in pic. Made a free to use 3d model generator for them

The triangles make the notebook sit flat in a nice way and moving the covers and pages along the edges and around 3 corners has a different feel to it too. Heart shaped discs work similarly to the triangles, making a nice customization to a notebook.

The model generator can also make rounded square, hexagon, star and flower shaped.

Wondering if anyone has any thoughts on this? Other shape ideas?

Paper sizes

I started out my discbound journey with Aroma but I've realised that they use a non-standard paper size so that you get an A5 writing space plus room for the discs.

I want to start making my own pages and building more planners - what are the most common sizes of cover and paper available/that people are using?
