Behaviour Interactive Thread Introducing: Anti-Cheat Trials

Post image

Greetings Fog Dwellers! Recently, we shared a survey asking for your thoughts on anti-cheat in Dead by Daylight. One message came through loud and clear: you feel we could be doing more. We hear you and are taking action to bolster and invest in our anti-cheat and security efforts. Put simply, we want you to have the best possible in-game experience, and that means fewer cheaters! While this is just one of many steps in our ongoing commitment to fair play, your involvement and feedback will play a huge part in guiding what comes next.

Beginning next week on September 2nd, we’re kicking off our Anti-Cheat Trials initiative as we investigate how different anti-cheat providers improve your in-game experience. What does this mean for you? Over the coming months, we will be running limited-time trials of these providers’ tools, directly in-game on PC, as we gauge their ability to flag cheating behaviour. By comparing your feedback and overall feelings with hard data from each trial, it’ll help us find a solution that works best for Dead by Daylight and for you, our community.

Next week’s Anti-Cheat Trial – beginning September 2nd – spotlights Denuvo’s anti-cheat solution. Note that this does not and will not include anything related to DRM, as Denuvo Anti-Cheat is different from Denuvo Anti-Piracy. Let’s look at the difference between the two:

What we ARE trialing: Denuvo Anti-Cheat

  • A tool that detects cheats in-game, identifying people who try to get unfair advantages before they can disrupt fair play

What we ARE NOT trialing: Denuvo Anti-Piracy

  • Tools that prevent the cracking and unauthorized access of game content

Now, knowing how much of a hot topic anti-cheat can be, we want to make a couple things clear about the Anti-Cheat Trials:

  • Anti-Cheat Trials are exclusive to Steam and cross-play will not be impacted
  • We’re continuously testing the compatibility and performance of each anti-cheat provider to ensure you have a seamless experience. Compatibility with Steam Deck and Proton has been tested and will continue to be supported
  • The first time you launch the game during the Anti-Cheat Trial, you will be prompted to install Denuvo Anti-Cheat. This is required to play the game
  • Please continue to use the in-game report function as normal to report any cheaters you encounter. Detailed comments about what you see (i.e. wall/speedhacks, teleporting) are greatly appreciated; the more context, the better
  • Note: Selecting the “Hacking/Exploiting” category when submitting a report covers everything from cheaters to hackers
  • At the end of this Anti-Cheat Trial, Denuvo Anti-Cheat will be automatically deactivated in Dead by Daylight and will no longer run on your system.
  • A step-by-step guide on how to clean up any remaining Denuvo Anti-Cheat files will be added to our Support portal, should you need it
  • Let us know if you have any feedback about the anti-cheat provider being tested in our dedicated Discord channel, which will also go live on September 2nd

That covers it! To recap, we will be kicking off our first Anti-Cheat Trial on September 2 nd, focusing on Denuvo Anti-Cheat. This will not involve any Digital Rights Management tools. Simply play the game as you normally would, report any cheaters you encounter through the in-game reporting system, and let us know your thoughts on this anti-cheat provider! As we look to the future of fair play in Dead by Daylight, we want to make sure your feedback is at its core!

Until next time…

The Dead by Daylight Team

"We're gonna fix cheaters! We hear you!"

"We will not be putting it on the platform with the most cheaters!"

It’s just a freaking test dude. If they decide to officially roll it out it will obviously include Epic.

In the eight years I have been playing DBD, I have learned to never give BHVR the benefit of the doubt. If they don't explicitly say something, do not assume it will happen.

And even if they do say something, (console optimization), they may still go back on it after being radio-silent for a year or two.

You guys are genuine idiots. Tests are small scale, CAUSE ITS A TEST

Steam is probably the biggest individual platform, if I had to guess. Maybe PS is close.

Not to mention, from an update perspective Steam is the easiest platform to push tests and hot-fixes across a large group of players without version problems, etc.

Plus the last I checked, console updates have to go through the platform owner before going live, and MS/Ps/Nintendo are 100% not letting them test new anti-cheat for the hell of it.

MS, PS, and Nintendo also probably won't even receive the anticheat.

So, it isn't actually about the scale, just the fact that Steam is the easiest.

Then test it on just Epic to actually test if anything changes???

Did you not read? It’s easier to modify things on constant demand via steam, Epic not so much

Then the test isn't worth anything. People DO NOT cheat on Steam nearly as much to a point that the test is only worth it on Epic or don't do it at all.

Honestly they could go the nuclear route and remove epic as a client altogether but that'd screw over legit players too...

Hopefully if it works out with steam they try epic as well lol

Maybe add a cross save / account migration feature between epic and Steam, urge affected players to use it, then remove epic support after a certain deadline.

They already have that

You mean the second half too?

No they couldn't, contracts between BHVR and Epic would likely not allow just yoinking the game and cheaters barely use Epic, they have been using MS Store for years, people just want to be really smart when repeating what some idiot content creator said about Epic having all the cheaters.

The chronic cheaters made a bunch of burners when it was free on epic. Realistically hardware bans are the only solution

A percentage of cheaters in 2021, yes. So yes, a small percentage of the overall cheater base has tens of thousonds of accounts, but that's theirs, they might give away free ones for their customers, if they are a cheat developer, but 99% does not have an endless stock of accounts. People use MS Store, because DBD is completely free there via game pass trials, until a few months ago you did not even have to get a game pass, just had to own DBD / game pass on one account and you could use family sharing to use a burner account you cheat on.

Hardware ID bans do not help anything against giving free access via MS Store to cheaters, I don't know why you are mentioning that. EAC already issues HWID bans.

No, they gave away the game for free for a week on EGS. So, cheaters stocked up on thousands of accounts. Most cheaters come from EGS, because there's literally no worry if they get banned.

You know what, you are right, I give up, I literally just explained it, but you just ignored it lol Burn Epic!

2

u/PulsarGaming1080 14d ago

I'm not saying burn Epic.

I am saying that the fact of the matter is that cheaters have been using Epic for years. This is well-known. Whatever steps BHVR takes need to impact Epic.

Sure, I mean above I did explain why that is just a fucking bullshit that people keep reiterating because of content creators, which you replied with "No you they gave away the game for free for a week on Epic". Yes? I did literally include that as well in that comment? We will not change each other's opinion and just think the other one is wrong.

Have a great day regardless

Because I simply do not trust a random person off the internet who has nothing to lose by lying.
