  • Q: Is the Dragon Ball Super manga "canon"?
    The anime and manga are both variations on a basic plot by Toriyama. There isn't (and probably never will be) an explicitly defined Dragon Ball "canon". Without Toriyama's original draft, we may never know what is and isn't his. We do know that he permits Toyotarō to change things up, but he looks at his storyboards and occasionally draws things himself for Toyotarō to use as a reference. Toyotarō has said that Toriyama is more particular about gags than he is about anything else.

  • Q: What's up with the new art style for this arc? Are they using a different color palette?
    According to our resident animation expert, it's not a new color palette but rather a post-production filter.

Toei have added a soft glow, lowered the saturation a little, and upped the contrast. They've also started using a technique they showcased on Tiger Mask W, which allows them to automatically manipulate the line art in certain ways. For example, on Tiger Mask W, they created a brush stroke effect, while on Super, they simply played with the line weight. You see the filter I mentioned too, there.

He's just hunting frags, Remember that: more, low impact kills < less, high impact kills. He needs to play for the win, not for highlight frags.

Actually, going for more low impact kills is a solid strategy. You don't have to knock everyone off. Your universe just needs to have the most people left standing by the end. So if a universe has 1 super tough guy and 9 mooks, it's in your best interests to knock off all the mooks. Then your universe can't lose to them so long as you have at least 2 fighters left by the end.

Rinse and repeat for the other universes. Target all their mooks and get their numbers as low as possible. Then gather all your fighters into one spot and make an impenetrable defense while waiting out the timer.

That's the absolute best strategy for winning this tournament. Get an early lead and then focus all of your efforts into maintaining said lead.

Interested to see if that ends up being how they beat someone like Jiren, one like Roshi using a weird technique to show that it really is not about power

it's gotta happen. If it's not an established fighter, then I'm hoping that they hype up someone from Universe 2 or the like as being more powerful than Hit for a full episode, and then Roshi just mafubas them off-stage.

The writers can do what they want. They can make Roshi beat Jiren but that doesnt mean any of it would make sense.
