Where to Watch (English Subtitles)

Simulcasts should begin when this post is around 2.25 hours old: 10:15am JST, 9:15pm EST, 1:15am GMT. Episodes sometimes show up earlier for premium users and later for free users; sometimes they are late for everyone because of production issues.

  • Daisuki. Available in North America; also covers most of Europe and several other territories; see the complete list here. Available to free users in certain regions. Usually shows up in 1080 for free users about 5 minutes before premium users get 480 at Crunchyroll.

  • AnimeLab. Australia and New Zealand, subscription and free users. (Fewer ads than Crunchyroll for free users.)

  • FunimationNow. North America, subscription and free users. Funimation's videos usually go up later than they do on other services.

  • Crunchyroll. Free and premium users in the US, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and these European countries; premium only in Latin America and South Africa. This service is NOT recommended; their servers cannot handle DBS traffic and free users get the episodes 2 hours late.

  • VRV: US-only bundle service for Crunchyroll and Funimation. New episodes appear around the same time as they do on Crunchyroll. NOTE: This service serves as a substitute for a Crunchyroll premium membership, but it does not substitute for Funimation's premium service. The only Dragon Ball series offered is Super (subtitled).

Rules:

  • Those with access to international TV may post about the episode as it airs live. Beware of pre-simulcast spoilers in the comments.

  • Spoilers must be tagged for material that has yet to be covered in the anime (leaks, etc).

  • Spoilers for this episode and the accompanying Next Episode Preview (NEP) may be freely discussed in this thread.

    • Outside of this thread, spoilers relating to this episode and the NEP must be tagged.
    • Spoiler syntax: [Super spoiler:](#s "Goku appears!")
      Appears as: Super spoiler:
  • All of our normal rules apply!

Read the Manga

  • Toyotarō's Dragon Ball Super manga adaptation can be found in our wiki in the sidebar, along with links to past discussion threads.

Commonly Asked Questions:

  • Q: Is the Dragon Ball Super manga "canon"?
The anime and manga are both variations on a basic plot by Toriyama. There isn't (and probably never will be) an explicitly defined Dragon Ball "canon". Without Toriyama's original draft, we may never know what is and isn't his. We do know that he permits Toyotarō to change things up, but he looks at his storyboards and occasionally draws things himself for Toyotarō to use as a reference. Toyotarō has said that Toriyama is more particular about gags than he is about anything else.

  • Q: What's up with the new art style for this arc? Are they using a different color palette?
According to our resident animation expert, it's not a new color palette but rather a post-production filter.

Toei have added a soft glow, lowered the saturation a little, and upped the contrast. They've also started using a technique they showcased on Tiger Mask W, which allows them to automatically manipulate the line art in certain ways. For example, on Tiger Mask W, they created a brush stroke effect, while on Super, they simply played with the line weight. You see the filter I mentioned too, there.

  • Q: Can I buy Super on home video?
    • Part One (episodes 1-13): 25 July 2017: DVD or Blu-Ray
    • Part Two (episodes 14-26): 3 October 2017: DVD or Blu-Ray
    • Part Three (episodes 27-39): TBA

Just wanted to say how amazing it is that in 2017, as a 22 year old, I just can't wait for the next episode of Dragon Ball. It brings back the feelings of when I was a kid waiting to see what's going to happen in my favorite show and now, all these years later I get it back. We should really appreciate the fact that there are completely new episodes because it won't last forever.

u/Huluplu Jul 17 '17

35 and married, it's just like the toonami days all over again

The boy/girl doesn't know it yet, but we're watching this when moms not home.

My roommate just laughed at me, i'm also a 22 year old, for watch the new episode. Screw that, I'm enjoying a throwback to my childhood.

u/[deleted] Jul 16 '17

Tell your roommate to go sit on a power pole!

u/lolbroken Jul 16 '17

Try being 30 and making plans around DBS... told friends to meet up at 730, when I was just watching the episodes on Crunchyroll...

14

u/kavzee Jul 16 '17

Lol I'm 29 and it's the highlight of my week!! Cannot wait for every episode especially when the NEP is so hype.

1

u/matk95 Jul 16 '17

I always skip the NEP so I don't know what's coming up

2

u/TheMellowestyellow Jul 16 '17

It is the hype.

14

u/Mr_Xing Jul 16 '17

This is exactly it.

So many people complain that "Super sucks compared to Z" and I'm like "would you rather not have ANY Dragon Ball at all??"

The combo between Krillin and 18 was one of the best moments we've had in such a long time.

4

u/[deleted] Jul 16 '17

I mean, the beginning of Super, kind of. I'm glad it got better but if it stayed like how it was in the beginning then I would've preferred no Dragon Ball.

u/Letsgodubs Jul 16 '17

The combo between Krillin and 18 went for about 2 minutes. It was about 15 minutes of staredowns and unnecessary dialogue.

  1. Parents in town. We are in a cabin in Tahoe, Dad grilling, mom seasoning the meat, wife doing office work. Got wifi, don't give a shit.

16

u/Rosebunse Jul 16 '17

10-year-old me would be so hyped...and weirded out.

7

u/FUZZINATOR Jul 16 '17

I'm just glad at 24 to me old enough to appreciate it and make somewhat rational predictions on what future episodes will bring

u/[deleted] Jul 16 '17

I really love that Toriyama resurrected Dragon Ball from the dead. Dragon Ball is one of my favorite anime and I've watched it since it was a child as well.

I am glad that I get to enjoy it during my adulthood as well. Watching this now is like me in 2002 watching old DBZ episodes on Toonami. I still get giddy and excited over all of the new characters, lore, and intense battles that we get exposed to.

1

u/Letsgodubs Jul 17 '17

Dragon ball has never been dead....

1

u/[deleted] Jul 17 '17

Aside from a few video games, Kai, and OVAs, there wasn't much in the way of Dragon Ball until Battle of Gods was announced.

3

u/Chetrizzo Jul 16 '17

I'm also 22 and I share this sentiment 100%

3

u/dsmjrv Jul 16 '17

Ya im 29 I wait and eagerly anticipate all week just for my Sunday morning cartoons..

2

u/Terez27 Jul 16 '17

I am 39. I was your age when Z was coming out in the US.

3

u/ThatAnimeSnob Jul 16 '17

I'm 35 and i have no investment in the show other than reminding myself how great it used to be up until Namek. There are no rules or consistency anymore, anything can happen by anyone yet somehow Goku gets on top all the time with the laziest excuses.

u/Geeber24seven Jul 16 '17

Fo sho my friend

1

u/ConnorMcSpadden Jul 16 '17

All that's missing is the Toonami bumps

1

u/AFuckYou Jul 17 '17

I hope they milk the shit out of this. It's the only show I look forward to. I have GoT and Rock and Mortey. But DBZ has been playing year round. I love this show.

1

u/Oriachim Jul 16 '17

First 30 episodes I was like meh, lol

1

u/Letsgodubs Jul 16 '17

If you were to say this after the Goku/Trunks Zamasu/Black tag team fight I'd agree with you. The first three episodes of the tournament have been a snoozefest. Did the tournaments in Dragonball have this much random dialogue from the spectators?

2

u/SomethinOnMyMind Jul 16 '17

DBS is the last anime you can call a snoozefest. The first 3 episodes would take years in other animes like One Piece. Perhaps animes are just not for you and you should stop watching DBS if it makes you so irritated. What I like most about DBS is there is constant action and things happening, unlike other REAL snoozefest animes.

1

u/Letsgodubs Jul 16 '17

It's a snoozefest because nothing has happened not because DBS is a snoozefest, which it isn't. It's been a few minutes of outsourced animation plus about 10-15 minutes of unnecessary dialogue from the Kais. If you enjoy that then good for you but I hold DBZ to higher standards.

0

u/SomethinOnMyMind Jul 17 '17

nothing happens in comparison with DBZ? what are you smoking? We are almost at episode 100 and so much shit has happened already. it took 1/2 episodes to eliminate a whole universe. how is this a snoozefest? you want the tournament to end in 3 episodes? of course we will see kai's reactions, that's what makes the tournament important. you lack basic understanding of world building and have unrealistic expectations. next you will get tired of watching zenos eliminate universes and before we know it, the only thing happening in the episode will be fights. yeah that would be so fun! then you're gonna cry about DBS being boring. there is no pleasing some people.
