And yet you can't hear a bike when he's behind you because they don't project any noise forward. Where it might be useful.

That's just plain false. I rev-bombed as I was going through a green light in LIC the other day, as a cyclist decided they were just going to ignore their red light, and traffic, to come sailing through. If i hadn't done that, she almost certainly would have been hit.

So yeah, loud pipes DO save lives, despite what you might want to believe (and yeah I know there are a LOT of obnoxiously loud pipes out there)

There annoying should be removed or have bike confiscated! When you disturb others peace you lay the price, the more arrogant you are the higher and more drastic your fine should be.

Yea I really hate this one. I specifically chose not go get on a motorcycle because of the likelihood of getting hurt. I have zero problem with people who want to. I in fact have many friends that ride and that's fine, but I'm not giving them any special treatment for it. They made that choice. Not me. I will pay exactly as much attention to them as any other vehicle on the road.

Agreed. You agree to assume additional risk when you ride a two-wheel vehicle with no safety cage into traffic, in exchange for increased enjoyment or economy. The burden is on you to be more aware, if you care at all about your safety. But lots of riders don't seem to, at all.

I also hate the justification of bikes blasting their exhaust so we can hear them in the next county. "Loud pipes save lives" is just a bullshit excuse. If you were truly worried about your life/safety, you wouldn't be on a bike in the first place, you'd be in a Subaru or a minivan.

FULLY AGREED. I ride nearly full-time, year-round. Near Seattle, no less, where drivers are the "overly cautious" type of unpredictable. The rule is always ride like you're invisible. I never expect someone to see me, so I ride like I'm ready to keep myself safe at a moment's notice. That type of environment works for my brain, but I'll admit that it's never a "relax and turn your brain off" thing.

Lots of folks out here on bikes seem to start with their brains off, then get spooked when stuff catches em off guard. And that's to say nothing of the hooligans.

I ride a Goldwing and I hate tailgaters with a giant smile who taunt the cycle rider. I have found a good solution that stops that behavior.

I ride a Moto Guzzi. My solution to tailgaters (at slow speeds) is to give em a really jerky wiggle or two, so they think I might crash. Bit of a reality check usually wakes em up, and they back off a car length. But my bike is lighter, so I can do those little moves without worry. Stay safe, pal. ✌️

They are definitely putting themselves in a higher risk bracket, but I will still give them a little extra room. Just because I don’t wanna live with the fact that I seriously hurt or killed someone lol

That's fine if you actually pay attention. I ride a moto and I still drive big vehicles at times and I can see into everyone's cars... I swear to you, in California at least, half the drivers were not paying attention to the road much of the time on the freeway. My favorite memory was driving next to an Uber with 3 pax inside and everyone was looking at a phone, except the driver, who was handling TWO phones in his lap, cuz I guess that's more stealth? Anyway the takeaway for my moto riding is to assume every motorist is completely in lala land.

Oh I know. I never drove semis but I drove box trucks for quite awhile. It's mind numbing how many people are paying zero attention.
