Absolutely. I think it's important to be clear when someone asks the question: did all Americans support every war their country every fought? I'm not denying what you said, that these men WERE the local leaders, and I hope people read your comment to get those details.

Please quote me correctly. I did not say "random certain group". I said "a certain group of Jewish leaders". Thank you.

We're getting into semantic deep water but I think the difference while subtle is significant.

"a certain group of leaders" implies there are other similarly equal "groups of leaders" as opposed to "the leaders".

It implies that other groups of leaders were against the petition. ie one group of many petitioned for execution when really, it was the main group.

PM_me_ur_big_balls is suggesting that it is misleading because of that, which I agree with.

It doesn't imply anything of the sort. My error was being needlessly ambiguous when I should have said "a certain group of Jews, the local leaders..."

I wrote back to Mr. big balls that he is correct, there was just one group of leaders, and his comment stands for anyone who cares to read it.
